Also a great weapon. Most of these have been modified and rebarreled from .303 to .308 anyway. There is a company that even specializes in sporterizing them and I was thinking of their "Jungle Carbine Model 7" when I suggested that model. For the life of me, I can't recall the name of the company that does those conversions. Anybody remember and have a link?
I think the 2Bs were built from scratch as .308.
There was an outfit, called the “Santa Fe Armory” in Anaheim, CA, if I recall correctly, that built replicas of the No. 5 Jungle Carbine by modifying No. 4s about 50 years ago.
There is also an outfit named “Gibbs” (in Pennsylvania?) that built replicas of the No. 5, probably from scratch. There was an article about them five or ten years ago in one of the trade magazines.

Though I have several AR15 variants, an SKS and big bore bolt actions including the .375H&H my main pride is my Springfield Armory M1A Standard.
Its not cheap and sometimes are to find but its the easiest to maintain and operate. I have 150gr, Barnes Triple shocks loaded for hunting, 168gr. BT Gold Match for long range and the usual mix of off the shelf FMJ.
However I live in rural Alaska and its marginal with dangerous game, a bit overpowered for close in work but does work better all around compared to the .223/5.56.
Its much heavier than the AR or AK but its American built and using the .308 or .30cal bullets makes it more desirable as far as reloading, powerwise for those that don’t know much the .308 could be called a 30-06 short in a way like what the Garand shoots.
My favorite bolt action is the stainless Ruger, and close second is the Winchester model 70.
The popular cartridges like the .223 and .308 are starting to get scarce so if a person was to find a good deal on another caliber like the .243 or .270 and stock up on ammo that may be the only thing to do right now.
My local Sportsmen Warehouse is always out of standard reloading bullets but they usually have the high end stuff like the new Barnes Triple Shocks, so I am buying them.
