A pre-St. Patrick's Day pub crawl has changed its name after several complaints that it denigrated Irish-Americans.

The "Running of the Micks'' is scheduled for March 7 in Atlantic City, but co-founder Matt McDermott tells The Press of Atlantic City he's changing the name of the event to the "Running of the Leprechauns.''

McDermott says his nickname is "Matty Mick'' and that he named the event after himself, not thinking it would offend anyone.

What’s Matt going to do when some perpetually aggrieved someone decides that the “pub crawl” itself stereotypes Irish Americans, no matter what it’s called?

["A spokeswoman for the Tropicana Casino and Resort, which has been promoting the event, said the casino had received about a half-dozen complaints about the name."]

Tell the six complainers to have a nice day and keep the name. When are we going to stand up to this endles bullying by the "tolerant" Left?

“Leprechauns”? What’s up with that? On behalf of the Little People I am offended.

You mean this guy doesn't denigrate Irish-Americans?

As a person of Irish descent, I have no problem with the “Running of the Micks” title, whether intended as a stereotype or not. If it was something like “Running of the lazy, drunken, wife-beaters”, ok, I would have a few issues.

While I have no complaints, personally, I am at least glad to see some balance out there... if the left is going to flip out every time something comes up that seems unflattering toward African Americans, Muslims, gays, or any other group that is constantly “victimized”, then at least the Irish get to complain too... we know how much the left hates Christians, especially Catholics, and probably uses the terms “Irish” and “Catholic” interchangably, so the outcry about this will hopefully be a thorn in their side. Two can play at this game, pinkos.

Being Irish Catholic I find nothing degrading in the name at all.

(I have lived down far worse by degrading myself.)

You earn a diversity gold star! For the little ones!

Don't you feel virtuous?

I'm aggrieved because pubs are associated with Irish, and Irish have been horribly stereotyped as drunks. Crawling from pub to pub? Oh, the horrors!

There, now I feel virtuous too.

"Running of the Leprechauns.''

How long will it be before the Leprechaun Anti-Defamation League files a complaint?

BTW - I used to work for a construction company that subcontracted a painting company called “Squarehead” Painting. The owner, like my father was born in Norway and I didn’t find it offensive. Norwegians often refer to each other as “Squareheads”. Not sure of the etymology but I think it’s often applied to people of Germanic or Scandinavian ancestry.

While attending college in Dublin my daughter led pub crawls a few times a week. If the Irish call them pub crawls then that’s what they are.

For decades in MN a hot meatball sandwich was called a
“Dago”. No on found this offensive. Then a lawyer from New Your saw it on the menu somewhere and went ballistic. Now you can only by hot meatball sandwiches.

My dad was all Swede. He had the squarest head I ever saw on a human being. I’m getting there too.

Good grief man, are you serious? From your tone you certainly sound like it. Do you really need a sarcasm tag when the statement is so ridiculous? Faith and begorrah.

Yeah what he said. I’m of Irish/Scottish descent. No problem here. Mick is a good word. Who cares? Conservatives can’t be offended except by a bozo ruining our country.
