I certainly didn’t want to forget your pretty Opening graphic this morning, Lori. It is very pretty and I loved that quotation about the seasons. Thanks a lot. I know you must have been very busy with your new little ‘toy’. It does take up some time, but it will be worth it. There is a lot of fun ahead for you all! I’ve barely been on FB recently. Stayed busy on the thread yesterday....it was a lot of fun here yesterday.

Gotta get busy!

Take my Son

A wealthy man and his son loved to collect rare works of art. They had everything in their collection, from Picasso to Raphael. They would often sit together and admire the great works of art.

The son went to war. He was very courageous and died in battle while rescuing another soldier. The father was notified and grieved deeply for his only son.

About a month later, just before Christmas, there was a knock at the door. A young man stood at the door with a large package in his hands.

He said, ‘Sir, you don’t know me, but I am the soldier for whom your son gave his life. He saved many lives that day, and he was carrying me to safety when a bullet struck him in the heart and he died instantly. He often talked about you, and your love for art.’ The young man held out this package. ‘I know this isn’t much. I’m not really a great artist, but I think your son would have wanted you to have this.’

The father opened the package. It was a portrait of his son, painted by the young man. He stared in awe at the way the soldier had captured the personality of his son in the painting. The father was so drawn to the eyes that his own eyes welled up with tears. He thanked the young man and offered to pay him for the picture. ‘Oh, no sir, I could never repay what your son did for me. It’s a gift.’

The father hung the portrait over his mantle. Every time visitors came to his home he took them to see the portrait of his son before he showed them any of the other great works he had collected.

The man died a few months later. There was to be a great auction of his paintings. Many influential people gathered, excited over seeing the great paintings and having an opportunity to purchase one for their collection.

On the platform sat the painting of the son. The auctioneer pounded his gavel. ‘We will start the bidding with this picture of the son. Who will bid for this picture?’

There was silence.

Then a voice in the back of the room shouted, ‘We want to see the famous paintings. Skip this one.’

But the auctioneer persisted. ‘Will somebody bid for this painting? Who will start the bidding? $100, $200?’

Another voice angrily. ‘We didn’t come to see this painting. We came to see the Van Gogh’s, the Rembrandts. Get on with the real bids!’

But still the auctioneer continued. ‘The son! The son! Who’ll take the son?’

Finally, a voice came from the very back of the room. It was the longtime gardener of the man and his son. ‘I’ll give $10 for the painting.’ Being a poor man, it was all he could afford.

‘We have $10, who will bid $20?’

‘Give it to him for $10. Let’s see the masters.’

The crowd was becoming angry. They didn’t want the picture of the son.

They wanted the more worthy investments for their collections.

The auctioneer pounded the gavel. ‘Going once, twice, SOLD for ten dollars.’

A man sitting on the second row shouted, ‘Now let’s get on with the collection!’

The auctioneer laid down his gavel. ‘I’m sorry, the auction is over.’

‘What about the paintings?’

‘I am sorry. When I was called to conduct this auction, I was told of a secret stipulation in the will. I was not allowed to reveal that stipulation until this time. Only the painting of the son would be auctioned. Whoever bought that painting would inherit the entire estate, including the paintings.’

‘The man who took the son gets everything!’

God gave His Son two thousand years ago to die on the cross. Much like the auctioneer, His message today is: ‘The son, the son, who’ll take the son?’

Because, you see, whoever takes the Son gets everything.

Thanks, yorkie. I have been so busy, I had to post a rerun from the old "Amy's Place".

I've been so preoccupied with that RV lately, but now that it is into storage for a while, I can get back to "real life" and that includes my favorite thread with my favorite friends. :-)

Isn’t it fun? Stocking the cupboards with pantry items, non perishables, pots and pans, silverware, dishes - then towels, sheets, first aid kit, tools, etc.

Of course it is a LOT of work - but, then, it is like getting an apartment. Lots of stuff that isn’t being used in the house is put to good use.

And, once it is decorated and furnished as planned, it is such a wonderful sigh of relief.

Mornin', sweet friend.

Yes, we've been so preoccupied with that 5th wheel that everything else, including our orders at the studio and keeping up the home-front, has been put on hold. We took "Larry" (the Laredo) out on a trial run overnight at a local campground to see if everything works and get familiar with the connecting and disconnecting from the hitch, etc. There is a lot to learn and we are camping 'newbies', but everything went fine and Larry is in storage now, for awhile, and life can get back to "normal".

I still have a lot to do to get the RV outfitted, but I can do it a little at a time.

I am glad to be back with my FRiends! Now, I need to get up to speed on our Central Valley Tea Party planned for the 15th. We are estimating we could have up to 5,000 people attending! That would be awesome for Fresno! Our local talk show radio station is helping to promote it and it is coming together nicely.

Yes, I can’t wait until it is just as I want it. I scavenged a lot of things from the house that I had duplicated, but many things I am going to have to buy. This could get expensive. I have to control my Martha Stewart instinct and keep myself going way overboard “decorating” it. I have enough Corelle for three families. I keep telling myself that I don’t need that pretty new pattern that matches the valances perfectly, or those placemats that compliment the the pretty oak cabinets. LOL. Lord help me, this is not going to be easy. ;-)

Oh Man ... I will get JK some sign ideas. I probably need about 5 signs. I'm not sure how many I can get to join us.

How was your camping trip? Did the fuzzies enjoy it?

I haven't talked to Jim but we are planning a spend this weekend in Avila Beach. We need to get away. Things have been so hectic here for the past 2 months. I need to let Jim know that I will not be going to Our corner on FRiday.

After school is out Friday, we will head to Corcoran and spend the night with son; get up early Saturday to get an early start. We have reservations for Saturday and Sunday. We will be home sometime Monday afternoon. Do you want to take another Monday? :^)

My note on today's opening graphic was “re-posted April 27, 2005.” Looks like in 2004, I was not noting the post date. The Graphic and the Weather Poem are both perfect for spring.

Sure, if you don't mind me posting another rerun from the old days.

That would be Monday, the 6th?

Lori, you might want to put this sign on the door
to remind yourself (and guests who visit)
that things may not be coordinated or matching
....... or even THERE. LOL!
