Okay, so basically I'm 17. I attend a not-surprisingly biased college in the liberal stronghold that is the state of Connecticut. I would like to get into politics, so I was hoping you all could recommend me some resources to give me some intellectual ammunition to defend my conservative views from the people I'm surrounded by.

I would read all the Orwell you can get your hands on. Animal Farm and 1984 are essentials.

If you want to get into politics, you should probably go live with pigs for a while.

Great preparation and plenty of intellectual ammunition.

Read the bible. Follow that Jesus fellah. Read the writings of our forefathers. Listen to Talk Radio. Easy as that. (As a bonus, study business and economics, and get into and understand the private sector.)

Get to know article 1, section 8 of the constitution. This section limits the power of the congress. Have others explain where congress gets the power to pass laws if the power is not in this section. This goes to the heart of the difference between conservatism and liberalism.

Seriously, start watching Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity and listening to Conservative talk radio. I have learned a lot from their simple explanations.

Also, read the Bible...seriously! It’s full of a lot of great stuff and well documented events...not to mention 350 prophecies that have come true. Also, how to live a good, ethical and moral life!!

Don't use "um". It's annoying. Yes, I'm being serious.

Next, buy, don't borrow, Paul Johnson's books A History of the American People, and, Modern Times.

Read both books.

There's LOTS more you need to read, but if you can get through those two, come back and tell us, and we'll tell you what to do next.

If you're as intelligent as you seem--seeing how you came looking for answers and didn't just sit there and take what's being tossed at you--you'll probably be able to figure out what to do next.

Good luck.

Contact The Leadership Institute. It's based in Virginia, but works with college students throughout the nation.

Another great resource, which is more philisophical than overtly political, is the Intercollegiate Studies Institute.

Read Thomas Sowell and Milton Friedman. You can’t even begin to make a difference in politics until you understand economics.
