People in the Australian state of Queensland have taken part in a mass capture of poisonous cane toads as part of a collective effort at pest control. The celebratory cull is known as Toad Day Out and was advocated by a Queensland politician, Shane Knuth. The toads have to be captured alive and unharmed, examined by experts, and then killed humanely under the event rules.

"This is an example of how the war against cane toads can be won,"

Nearly any war can be won if it's waged without mercy.

Congrats to the Aussies for finally fighting a merciless battle against this ecologically disastrous pest!

Hate them. During certain times of year I have to do a perimeter check of the back yard before the dogs can go out to potty. They have never shown interest in them, but who wants to take a chance?

Holy cow! That looks almost as crazy as the red crab invasion on Christmas Island.

I'd show a picture of it but you're the master of "picture talk." Hint hint...

Do they get a last meal? And if so, what about the poor dead flies they're feasting on?

Depending on which part contains the poison, I wonder why don't they cook up some fried toad legs?

The toxin issecreted from the large glands on the top of the toad’s head (parotid glands).

As for whether the legs are safe to eat, try the Florida Keys test for Ciguatera infected fish. They feed a piece of the barracuda in question to one of the swarms of dock cats, then let kitty sleep in a closed place until morning.

If the cat is alive in the morning, that ‘cuda is safe to eat.

I suggest the Aussies do a similar test using one of the all too numerous Muslims that are attempting to impose sharia law on Australia.

If my idea works, the Aussies will have a new source of food, and (assuming frogs can get Ciguatera, ;-) ), they will eventually have fewer Muslims.
