If all the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame honored was rock-n-roll acts, that would be one thing. But I guess they have to decide to keep SOMEBODY out, lest people figure out it ain’t really about rock-n-roll, anyway.
Probably the best band not in the R&R HOF. And certainly more deserving that some of the people/bands currently there.
Wow, Genesis isn’t in either? That’s a crock as well.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducts Run DMC, but rejects Rush, Yes, the Moody Blues, Jethro Tull, the Electric Light Orchestra, Genesis and Emerson, Lake and Palmer.
Go figure.
"The Trees" There is unrest in the forest There is trouble with the trees For the maples want more sunlight And the oaks ignore their pleas The trouble with the maples (And they're quite convinced they're right) They say the oaks are just too lofty And they grab up all the light But the oaks can't help their feelings If they like the way they're made And they wonder why the maples Can't be happy in their shade There is trouble in the forest And the creatures all have fled As the maples scream 'Oppression!' And the oaks just shake their heads So the maples formed a union And demanded equal rights 'The oaks are just too greedy We will make them give us light' Now there's no more oak oppression For they passed a noble law And the trees are all kept equal By hatchet, axe and saw.
I was a huge Rush fan in the 70s, but they lost me after Farewell to Kings.
Their post-Kings output isn’t my cup of tea, but no one can deny that they are excellent musicians and a superb band creating some impressive and original music.
I don’t have any opionion on the R&R HOF, except that it seems kind of silly.
Neal Peart: the best drummer in all of music.
Geddy Lee should be recognized as the worst singer in the history of pop music.
Is King Crimson in?
Their politics aside, this is my favorite RUSH song:
“Red Barchetta”
My uncle has a country place
That no one knows about
He says it used to be a farm
Before the Motor Law
And on Sundays I elude the eyes
And hop the Turbine Freight
To far outside the Wire
Where my white-haired uncle waits
Jump to the ground
As the Turbo slows to cross the borderline
Run like the wind
As excitement shivers up and down my spine
Down in his barn
My uncle preserved for me an old machine
For fifty odd years
To keep it as new has been his dearest dream
I strip away the old debris
That hides a shining car
A brilliant red Barchetta
From a better vanished time
I fire up the willing engine
Responding with a roar
Tires spitting gravel
I commit my weekly crime
Wind
In my hair
Shifting and drifting
Mechanical music
Adrenaline surge...
Well-weathered leather
Hot metal and oil
The scented country air
Sunlight on chrome
The blur of the landscape
Every nerve aware
Suddenly ahead of me
Across the mountainside
A gleaming alloy air car
Shoots towards me, two lanes wide
I spin around with shrieking tires
To run the deadly race
Go screaming through the valley
As another joins the chase
Drive like the wind
Straining the limits of machine and man
Laughing out loud with fear and hope
I’ve got a desperate plan
At the one-lane bridge
I leave the giants stranded at the riverside
Race back to the farm
To dream with my uncle at the fireside

The list. Plenty of non-rock-and-roll there, but as stated above no prog rock. Nice.
Rush was a rockstar? Who knew?
I likes me old Rush tunes.....
Rush should not be inducted until YES is.
Jeff Beck is being inducted according to his website. This rebuffs the “no progressive rock band” gripe IMO.
The website indicates the inductees over-represent a particular racial group.
