It could be - of course we already have proof that he is a loud mouth bigot, a drunk and adulterer. I’d say she’d have to do a lot to equal him in the low life department.

Women are capable of many things and some excel at being lowlifes. Perhaps she is worse than he is just more discreet. For example a stay at home worthless drunk as there are plenty of them depending on housekeepers.

We will never know for sure.

How about we use Mel's own words here:

In an interview with the New Yorker magazine five years ago, Gibson said: 'There is no salvation for those outside the Catholic Church. I believe it. Put it this way. My wife is a saint. She's a much better person than I am.

'She's an Episcopalian, Church of England. She prays, she believes in God, she knows Jesus, she believes in that stuff. It's just not fair if she doesn't make it because she's better than I am. But that is a pronouncement from the chair. I go with it.'

That would be a little tough to live with, especially when he's a drunk to boot

Maybe he was drunk, not a stretch as you have stated numerous times that you KNOW he stays that way, when he said this and therefore it is meaningless?

This is pointless as my original question remains unanswered and by virtue of that I surmise that she indeed is not “steak”.

Oh come on Eaker - where did I say that he STAYS drunk? I said he is an alcoholic. He used that term himself didn't he when he was arrested and gave his now infamous bigoted rant? He said it, so I can assume he was being truthful.

As I said, we don't know if she is a steak or not, but we do know he isn't. Gotta go with the facts that we have.

Unfortunately you’re talking about a world that is foreign to many of the guys here who feel women deserve little or nothing in divorce court. They probably lost half of their Corvette or Comaro in their last divorce and haven’t gotten over it.

How does one lose half a car? Did they break out the blowtorch? Although, in the insanity that is divorce court, I have no doubt that this type of thing could be decreed, especially if the judge is a woman ;)

I didn’t use the term “business contract”. I said marriage is a contract, which it is. It is also a contract between two people, that makes them partners. Doesn’t really matter if the partners are marriage or business partners, if one partner wants out - they will have to divide the partnership assests in order to dissolve the partnership.

Mel has repeated and publicly referred to his wife as a saint and stated often that she is the better person in the marriage.

Stories of Mel’s indiscretions are common fodder. See if you can find similar stories of Mrs. Gibson’s misbehavior, overspending, drunken scenes, etc.

I asked a question and it has not been answered. The poster made a supposition that they cannot prove and the onus is on them.

I have grown bored with waiting and don’t believe that she is “steak” based on the lack of an answer.

The problem in these cases is the mentality that some have that in good times, the property and money is ‘ours,’ but when things go sour, it all suddenly becomes ‘mine.’

Each person has a 50% stake in the whole - they should be free to take that 50% and do whatever they want with it.

Ultimately it’s fair - either party can do it. That only one exercises that power doesn’t mean it is somehow unfair.

I would say that giving up a 28 year marriage and growing old with the mother of your 7 children, shared family meals, holidays and vacations now a thing of the past is indeed giving up “steak” for hamburger. Especially for a devout catholic.

BTW, a woman who has birthed 7 children and still maintained a lithe figure is also generally considered “steak” by most men. Also the fact that she chose to have those children in accordance with her husband’s religious beliefs and not sneaking off to kill them or use BC pills on the sly is more evidence of a loving and obedient wife, more “steak” anyway you slice it.

No fault divorce has a long tradition, despite what critics of it say. In the Jewish tradition, a husband could divorce his wife for any or no reason - it was perfectly right and holy, as far as God was concerned. Christian tradition changed that, but it suggest no fault is somehow ‘new’ doesn’t hold water.

The problem with the anicent Jewish tradition was that it was fundamentally unfair - the wife didn’t have the power to divorce for any or no reason.

I see no reason to do away with no fault. If one party wants out, forcing them to remain together isn’t a wise thing.

Let me just say, she looks like a classy, elegant lady in every photo I’ve ever seen of her. I’ve never read or heard a single report of her drinking to excess, drug problems, acting out of control, making a public spectacle of herself or causing scenes in public. She stayed in a marriage to someone who obviously has alcohol problems, there have been rumors before of infidelity and she has been dignified throughout, not running to the tabloids, writing a tell-all book, or showing up on Oprah to discuss her personal life. She also has apparently raised 7 nice kids, since they also have never acted like some minor Hollywood celebrities thinking they are all that just because of who their dad is. I’ve never heard about a tantrum that a Gibson offspring has had in public, haven’t heard about wild parties, trashed hotel suites, DUIs or the like.

If she is that much of a bitch, well, she hides it rather well. And he called her his ‘Rock of Gilbraltar’ which would indicate to me that she has been the strong one in the marriage and that he admired and appreciated her (at some point anyway).

Domestic relations law is archaic, degenerate and intrinsically corrupt. No self-respecting lawyer will be caught dead getting involved in this medieval slime-pit.

I’m not the devout catholic, Mr. Gibson is. He has spoken frequently on his Pre-Vatican II beliefs and ideals.

His professed ideals = steak.

Misogyny abounds on this thread.
