Ten years ago, Paul Lombardo was teaching at Eastlake Middle School.
Like any other teacher, student or administrator who walked into a school on April 20, 1999, Lombardo had no idea that the day's events would forever change how safety was viewed at public schools across the country.
That day two students walked into Columbine High School in Littleton, Colo., and proceeded to shoot and kill 12 of their classmates and one teacher before killing themselves.
"Ten years ago, or even throughout my whole life, if you had told me that was going to happen in my lifetime or that I would be affected by it personally, I wouldn't have believed you," Lombardo said.
Ten years ago, Meri Consolo, Lauren Allen and Christian Kissig were all in second grade and no older than 8.
But on Sept. 2, 2008, these three high school seniors found themselves and 10 of their classmates huddled in the corner of van Heeckeren's classroom as a teenage gunman roamed the halls of South High.
"I guess you could say it was an eye opener for all schools. It's not on the news as much as it used to be, but it can happen anywhere," she said. "I never thought it would happen here, but Columbine taught a lot of schools a lot of things about what can be done to protect the safety of students."
"Because of what has happened in the last 10 years, just with society, it has brought to light that we have to make sure we're prepared for anything that might happen," Lombardo said.
"For those who say it can't happen here ... We now say it can happen here and we need to be prepared."

on MSNBC tonight there was a show about guns in America. It was put on by Brits and is full of all the typical lies.
The left cares nothing about the lives of our children. They already think there are two many people on earth and support drastic steps to reduce the population.
It can only happen where people are required to go unarmed and defenseless.
It can only happen where those with hate and a desire to kill the defenseless know that they can go and kill at will until the police come.
And as was demonstrated at Columbine when the police do come they will gather outside the building and wait and plan an entry strategy while they wait to determine if this is a hostage situation or a mass murder.
Did they mention that the Islamic Fundamentalist that they hold in dearest regard don’t need guns to kill their wives and daughters if they happen to allow a bit to much skin to show.
This article mainly concentrates on High School shooting with a short diversion to the VTech shooting.
Nothing short of concealed carry will solve the problem of mass shootings. Anyone can run through a metal detector and past the unarmed rent a cops and shoot up a place full of sitting ducks.

Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold were products of parents trying to live the American Dream under the ever-increasing burden of Democrat-impossed taxes. It started in the ‘60s. Mom and Dad were never home for these two because both had to work. Just to afford taxes.
Exactly right. As long as would be killer has Knows where people to find unarmed people they will have a free fire zone whenever they want one.
As of today a free fire zone can be found at any local High School.
In some schools you may have to shoot a cop or two but that shouldn’t present too much of a problem with a little planning and superior fire power.
Only when the perp has no idea where or when the shot may come is there true deterrence.
Colorado has some of the most liberal gun laws in the country.
They have a law called.....MAKE MY DAY........
You are permitted to shoot to kill anyone who threatens you OR your property.
Under Governor Owens of Colorado, there was a model taxing law in effect. No raising taxes above the level of inflation. This law was acclaimed by other Governors and considered one of the best in the country.
The voters had to approve increased taxes.
BS. I graduated from Columbine when the top marginal income tax rate was 70%, and only my father worked outside the home. Taxes, particularly in Colorado due to TABOR, have decreased since then.
