Anything natural that will repel mosquito/bug bites? I have heard garlic pills will repel them, but wife is allergic to garlic...

But, you asked about raptors. Try looking here: http://www.junkscience.com/ddtfaq.html

Thanks for the link! Very interesting!

You’ll want to stay out of the desert during certain times of the year when the black flies are swarming. They are unstoppable.

take barley green twice a day....keeps the blood alkaline. good for you anyway. they like the grease, salt and sugar in our blood. eat mostly fruits and veggies with a little meat.

Yeah, but you have bark scorpions and black widows to look out for, particularly near the greenways.

One of the reasons I moved *back* to Minnesota.

(How did KFYI and the local talk shows handle McCain's presidential run, anyway? And how is Bruce Jacobs handling Napolitano as head of DHS?)

Cheers!

Any diet considerations anyone knows about?

Don't know, except that it's obvious that mosquitoes do like some people more than others.

I'd recommend growing some pennyroyal, and rubbing it on her skin. Natural, not too bad-smelling, and a good chance of working.

I just bring my husband along, they like him better than me.

You’re just jealous of my kissably soft shoulders.

Is it the lotion or the hair?

Never said it was natural and why you’d tell someone to test it on their tongue is ridiculous.

If someone doesn’t want mosquito bites, there are not a lot of options and West Nile is probably not fun either.

LOL. I just love the idea of two lovebirds walking hand-in-hand on a nice summer evening with both puffing on stogies.

Could be your blood type. Some guy on my ship said folks with AB negative blood don’t get bit as often because the little monsters don’t like the taste. Makes sense to me because AB negative is the rare blood type, and skeeters would have developed a taste for something more common and easier to find.

What I would like to know is what can one buy that’s a skeeter repellant AND sunblock (that works for both) for long fishing ventures.

Researchers report that nepetalactone, the essential oil in catnip that gives the plant its characteristic odor, is about ten times more effective at repelling mosquitoes than DEET

I am putting planters around my deck filled with catnip. You can find confirmation of this information in many places.

Who cares about the damned birds? Millions of people die each year because of mosquito borne illness, from malaria to dengue fever to West Nile virus, not to mention all the other nasty things they carry and transmit.

You gotta be kidding.

I do, and so do a lot of other voters. That's one thing that turns a number of elections in purple states. A lot of people are fairly conservative in their beliefs. but they also care about the environment. It drives voters to vote democrat when some conservatives basically say "Who cares about the eagles? Kill 'em all if it means we can increase the breeding population of third world people that are already stretching the resources of their countries so thin they're barely surviving."

They always left my grandmother alone. She was always drinking gin and tonic. I’m not sure there’s a connection.

I use Vick’s Vapor rub. It seems to work well. I think the camphor is what keeps them away. I think DEET works better though.

From Snopes.
Sorry to have to make it a pic. For some reason, I couldn't copy/paste it.
