It is this fact - this sudden, almost perpendicular rise in the national debt, this pledging of the national credit on a scale unprecedented in the peacetime experience of any other country - that shouts a warning for the future.

You ain't seen nothing, yet ping.

“You ain’t seen nothing, yet ping.”

No kidding. The “yet” is here, and the “Yet” are us.

Thanks.

Yes, I’ve seen that before. The parallels are scary!

While the parallels are scary, the differences with today are far scarier.

In 1939, our nation still had the largest manufacturing base in the world. Today, it is in China. Yesterday, the sale of the Hummer brand to China means yet another piece of our manufacturing base is headed across the Pacific.

In 1939, we were the world’s largest creditor nation (thanks mostly to buying Britian’s WW1 bonds). Today we are it’s largest debtor.

In 1939, we did not have ticking time bomb of unfunded entitlement obligations. We sure do today.

In 1939, there were still patriots at the New York Times and other media outlets to call attention to this reckless spending. Today, the media is the propaganda organ of our socialist regime.

In 1939, we still had the people and capacity to go win a world war and build a great nation. Today, we are so screwed.

Great post!

In 1945, President Roosevelt met with Saudi King Ibn Saud, in the Suez Canal aboard the cruiser, USS Quincy. Both were relatively old men -- FDR, of course, wheelchair bound and would die two months later. King Saud was years older, and had trouble walking.

President Roosevelt did not bow to King Ibn Saud, nor did he ask the king to bow to him. Instead FDR gave the king his spare wheel chair, which the king used, and it became a prised possession.
