First extragalactic exoplanet may have been found
New Scientist Space ^ | 06/10/09 | Stephen Battersby

We could find planets in other galaxies using today's technology, according to a new simulation. The study gives credence to a tentative detection of a planet in Andromeda, our nearest large galactic neighbour.

The idea is to use gravitational microlensing, in which a distant source star is briefly magnified by the gravity of an object passing in front of it. This technique has already found several planets in our galaxy, out to distances of thousands of light years.

Extending the method from thousands to millions of light years won't be easy, says Philippe Jetzer of the University of Zürich in Switzerland, but it should be possible.

No the Gamma Quadrant is in the Milky Way, by 2365 Starfleet had only explored 20% of our Galaxy. Of course that was in the orginal timeline. Who knows now, my star trek history is like Obama’s American history now.
Today we have have found the Kelvin’s home. We should leave them alone !

Even by the time they got to the Star Trek Voyager series they were still in our galaxy and generations from home even at warp speed.

Not ever Roddenberry could shrink space very much.

Wow. Just totally unbelievable to think that there’s even a possibility that we might’ve already detected the first extragalactic exoplanet.

I thought Alpha Proxima was our nearest galactic neighbor.

Alpha Proxima is the nearest star to us. Andromeda is the nearest galaxy to the Milky Way.

They spotted a planet in another galaxy!

That’s like spotting a gnat in Africa from Mars.

Asgard isnt a city its an alternate plane but that has nothing to do with the reference you are inquiring about...

The SGC is contacted by the Asgard, who inform them that Thor has been killed by the Goa'uld, and they need help to rescue a stranded Asgard scientist. The team discovers that Thor is alive, but he has been captured by Osiris and she is about to discover the secret Asgard laboratory.
