It's been a long standing argument about using taxpayer money to fund abortions but if ObamaCare becomes the law of the land as he's pushing it to be, abortion will likely be part of everyone in the nation's health care plan. And pro-lifers are upset that their taxpayer money will go to funding abortions.
But should pro-choicers be worried as well about ObamaCare?
Everyone by now knows that a national health care plan will essentially wipe out private health insurance because if you give something away for "free" what company is going to carry the cost of health care plans for employees when all their competitors have done away with them? So, aside from a relatively small percentage of the population, we'll all have the same health care plan - ObamaCare.
Now, remember than on July 17, 2007,Obama told the Planned Parenthood Action Fund that his health care reform, "reproductive care is essential care, basic care, so it is at the center, the heart of the plan that I propose."
So we'll all have abortion coverage, right?
File this thought under unintended consequences but one interesting point in a single payer system, is that when the political pendulum swings (and it will eventually) pro-life legislators in the Republican and Democrat parties could conceivably vote to shut off coverage of that procedure with one single vote, virtually ending any insurance coverage for the procedure, making abortion nearly a cash-only business and likely driving many out of business.
Abortion could become an on again-off again policy much like the Mexico City policy which is enforced and removed under different Presidents. But how many abortion providers would fare well receiving barely any insurance coverage for four years?
Putting all the power in the hands of legislators right now probably seems like a good idea to most abortion providers but the makeup of the legislature will not always be this way and a pro-choice Democrat will not always be in the White House. They too should think twice.
One of the comments that follows the article...Limited OBGYN visits but unlimited abortions? They won’t go whole hog at first, they’ll set it at a seemingly unreasonable reasonable number like 5 children with the tubal being free! Then to cut cost, 4...and then 3 and finally, we too can be sensible like China.
I suspect they’ll also coopt those crazy Christians on birth control in general making it very available to children. Girls age 12 and up will be encouraged to take the pill or get a shot or whathave you under the guise of saftey and preventative care, whether or not the parents consent or agree.
If the state is the doctor, then if the doctor says it’s okay...
Look at china.
What happens when one of our pro choicers decides they actually want to have a child but the ministry of health decides its not cost effective for them to have a child.
Everyone who wants to live past age 35 should fear Obama Care. No exceptions unless you are a politician like Ted Kennedy who won’t use it but wants to impose it on us “lessers” or a big Democrat supporter.
Obamacare will do whatever they want regardless of who
lives and who dies. No promise will be kept, and nobody is safe.
*shrug*
Free markets determine who gets limited goods and services by price.
Socialist/Fascist/Communist economies determine who gets limited goods and services by rationing and delays.
I can easily see an 11 month waiting list for an abortion under 0bamacare.
ObamaCare will end up the most efficient way yet to fund abortions. Funding abortion and AIDs treatment will take priority over all other funding decisions. It will be very difficult to change those relative priorities even if power swings back more to the center.
