Spaghetti sauce

How do you get the skin off tomatoes to make a spaghetti sauce?

I have gotten a bumper crop of tomatoes and made some awesome spaghetti sauce. With my first pot of sauce, I made the mistake of not skinning the tomatoes first.

Do you boil them for 1 -2 minutes then put in cold water? I know there is some method.

That sounds about right. Google “How to peel tomatoes” and you’re bound to find the directions.

They don’t need to be boiled but the water does need to be hot enough to scald them before dropping them into cold water.

The skin will begin to split and that means they’re ready.

Just rub a Shamwow over them for a few seconds. Rips the skins right off.

And if you call now, I'll double your order. Just pay shipping and handling, which happens to be three times what the dang thing is worth.

‘Do you boil them for 1 -2 minutes then put in cold water? I know there is some method.’

I think that’s called ‘blanching’. Boil for a few minutes, dump in cold water, and then start peeling them. If that doesn’t work, just make a sauce using garlic and oil. Quicker, easier, and yummy too.

You scald them with boiling water. A minute or two dip should do it. Let ‘em cool, and peal.

Freeze the tomatoes right off the vine. When ready to make sauce, place in water for a few minutes. Skins pop right off. Sauce is great.

Yes you use boiling water but it only takes 10-20 seconds to get the skin off. Put them in the water and then take the tomatoes out put in ice water. The skin will peel right off!

Make an x on the bottom with a pairing knife, dip in boiling water for 45 seconds then into ice bath, should peel easily.

Why skin them? That is where a lot of the good stuff is. Or skin them but blend up the skins and kick them back into the sauce. I will never peel a potatoe. Never have. Dittos for tomatoes

Be careful when you lift the tomato out of the hot water and drop it in cold water to ‘pop’ off the skin. The meat inside is still hot.

High explosives. Why mess around with boiling water?

I have gotten a bumper crop of tomatoes...

Well, if they do go rotten, you can always sell them at Obama's next speech on the economy.

I have seen Alton Brown roast roma tomatoes cut in half in a baking dish, then push them through a sieve which leaves the skins behind. You could also try the pepper method where you char the skins on a gas burner and then let them cool and the skins should slide right off.

A bumper crop of tomatoes! I’m green with envy! We have had the worst luck with tomatoes due to the little tiny devils known as whiteflies!
