Good morning to all of you gardeners. It is time for some of us to start harvesting the fruit of our labor. Tomatoes, Bell Peppers, Eggplants, Zukes, Cukes and Hot Peppers! What wonderful veggies have yall harvested so far and what veggies are you anticipating the most?
Weekly Gardening Thread
I hope all of you will stop by.
This is typically a low volume ping list. Once a week for the thread and every once in a while for other FR threads posted that might be of interest.
If you would like to be added to or removed from the list please let me know by FreepMail or by posting to me.
Thanks for the thread. I just started getting tomatoes, have gotten some zucchini, green beans and cucumbers. Eggplant is flowering (as is watermelon) but it’s still a ways off.
I love this time of year. I’m so anxious for all of the garden-ripe veggies. I’m committed to canning and freezing this year so I’m hoping for a bumper crop of everything!
Yea, it’s finally summer! I’m starting to get a lot of flowers on my tomatoes and the yellow squash is growing beautifully!
Some of the plants ..not the heirloom ones.....have leaves at the bottom of the plant that are turning yellow. No brown, no spots ...so I'm pinching them off.
Do you think this is just b/c it has been so wet in the northeast?
I should have the first tomatoes this weekend. Lots of them.
The first eggplant is forming and the cucumber and squash are in full swing. Peppers too, although I found out that I was picking the thai peppers too soon.
I am looking for great recipe for Eggplant Lasagna. Do I leave the skin on and do I need to let them drain after I slice them?
Good morning my friend!
My daughter picked her first radishes this week, but for the moment that is all we have ready to pick, although I do have one yellow squash that will be ready this weekend.
I have gargantuan tomato plants that stand over 5 feet tall with lots of blossoms, but hardly any fruit yet :(
We picked a few blueberries yesterday, from the bush I thought was dead, but they still need a few more days. Blackberries and black raspberries have all of a sudden exploded, again from bushes/canes I thought were toast.
With luck we’re going to be doing another massive planting this weekend, with a little bit of everything, and a lot of some things!
Peas. Tomatoes.
I don’t want to give anyone a bad time, but this is a big country, and when someone talks about their garden production, a lot depends on where you are in the country. It is difficult at best when you don’t even have the state flag under your screen name home page, and the interested party doesn’t know you.
If you only see a few yellow tomato leaves toward the bottom of the plant, I don’t think there is anything to worry about. It could be these leaves arent getting the nutrients from the soil and arent getting sunshine.
What kind of mulch is that under the plants? That may have something to do with the leaves turning yellow. I had that problem last year.
It would be nice if everybody had their home page at least set up for their location. But I do understand the reason why some do not want that info on the net.
"Guess we didn't follow the thinning instructions so well"
But I do understand the reason why some do not want that info on the net.
and I don’t. The net is what it is, and if you are on it, it doesn’t take experts long, to figure out what you think you are hiding.
Way COOL!!!!!!!!!
You planted the whole bag in the hole?
harvesting the fruit of our labor
What harvesting? My 5 inch tomato plants have just bloomed, one bloom each, having slightly recovered from their having been placed in pots outside a couple of weeks ago. The two pepper plants are just now putting out new leaves after having dropped most of the other ones due to the same issue.
