A critically ill Hamilton preemie turned away from McMaster Children's Hospital is all alone in a Buffalo intensive care unit because her parents don't have passports to get across the border.
Hamilton's neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) was full when Ava Isabella Stinson was born 14 weeks premature at St. Joseph's Hospital Thursday at 12:24 p.m.

The real story is that this baby will be taken care of in a US hospital because her home country couldn’t or wouldn’t care for her.
They would put a Canadian reporter in the gulag for reporting the real story...that Canada’s healthcare system is a joke.
But why would they want to LEAVE THE CANADIAN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM THAT’S FREE AND COME TO THE USA FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT?????????
Another part of the REAL story is “how about that rationed health care in Canada?”
Taking a baby to a hospital OUT OF COUNTRY without parents?
OUTRAGEOUS!!!
Doesn’t seem to be a problem on the southern border where thousands of Mexicans come over to have their “American” babies.
So now our friends to the North can’t visit without visa, and in the South the Mexicans keep on trooping in at will.
How did the baby get across without a passport?
While I agree with all the posts so far, I also feel for the parents unable to see their baby, maybe for the last time.
How hard is it to get a passport? I went to Ecudar several years ago and I dont remember it being that difficult to obtain a passport.
I feel bad for sick kids. I hope she gets better.
Bright side is she has no idea what’s going on, she’s not freaking out.
Have no sympathy for the illegal parents who should not be here with their daughter in the first place. Ruining our medical system by using massive resources and not paying for them.
Of course, the mother has greater concerns; ""They've taken her away from me and I can't get that out of my head," Paquette said. "If it was Toronto, I could jump in the truck and go see her. But I don't know anybody with a passport. I just want to see my baby girl."
I agree. The real story is that the Canadian system FAILED completely and these two people had to come to our “broken” system to get care for their baby.
I’d say the government of Canada is footing the bill on this one. It was an arranged transfer of patient {child} from Canada to a U.S. hospital that would accept the transfer. This isn’t a case if illegals being here as I read as they are in Canada, it but is a case of the parents likely figured they would never need passports if they never intended to leave Canada. In this case if the Canadian government is footing the medical bill and made the arrangements then the at least the mom should be allowed here ASAP. Someone in the State Department needs to be called in to work and do a few minutes paper work.
I’ll bet if the parents were from, say, Mexico there would be no problem getting them accommodations.
Ya Think?!
Please don’t take my comments as anything other than a criticism of THE GOVERNMENT(S) of both countries
Canadian health care so bad they have to send her to USA
AND
USA bureacracy so bad they will tlet the baby in without a passport but not the parents- Health care moving to be like the canadian systems...
This story is a horror story for the parents of children in a government run health system... coming soon to USA
