I started getting a sore throat about a week ago and lasted for 2 days. Turned into a nasty cold. Turned flu like Sunday throwing up and other stuff. My wife tried to get me to go to the Doc's all day yesterday. I hate doctors. I went to the doctors for something the first time since my Army days about 3 years ago. Had scopes probed all over the place. Diagnosis was acid reflux. Gave me a pill that didn't agree with me and stopped taking it 2 days later. Stopped drinking sodas and cut back on coffee. Could of saved a lot of pain and money if I did that in the first place.

This latest thing is really something. I can't remember ever have a cold or flu in the summer. In fact I can't ever remember being sick period in the summer months.

Doesn't matter if it's swine flu, the economy taking a big huge dump, society busting at the seams, the lightening move to socialism/marxism, female Latino superiority, we're ready. Every day I wake up I hate for the phone to ring and I hate watching the news. It gets worse every day.

The last well I worked I got hit with the full gamut of flu symptoms, with the exception of the GI routine. I have never had the fever, body aches, general weakness, and the sheer amount and viscous consistency of the crud I coughed up was amazing. I was working 12-14 hour days and finally kicked it by taking two aspirin, 1000 mg of vitamin C, 1000 units of Vitamin D, and a B Complex supplement every 12 hours after six or seven days. I used just a trace of Benadryl Elixr to open up my air passages a little when I had trouble getting the junk out of my lungs. (I'm a firm believer in using the least effective dose of OTC remedies.)

Thankfully, my job let me avoid face to face contact with almost everyone on the rig, and I did not pass it on.

Last time I felt that bad, I had severe pneumonia and was hospitalized.

I turned the TV to the cartoon channels for the kids, and check commodity prices in the early morning. As long as oil stays this low, the oil patch is imploding slowly too. We have fewer than half as many rigs drilling in this area as there were a year ago.

Older ya get, easier it is to get sick friend......:o)

3 fingers of good bourbon, a little honey and some lemon juice still works good for getting the rest. Add fresh air, sunlight and yer halfway there.

These days when I leave work I wash my hands of the place.....literally. Do it again when I get home. Crazy bugs these days will make ya ill too easy.

Stay safe !

My wife (our resident BSN/RN) was told at a staff briefing the other day at work that Tamiflu is losing it’s effectiveness for some reason. They’re not sure why yet. Sorry to hear you were sick buddy.

Well I certainly hope you are on the mend and the good news is that now you have antibodies to whatever it is. :)

Like you we’re so rarely sick, even though we both “work with the public”, that we remember those few times vividly.:) Last bout of “summer flu” was sometime in the ‘80’s. The worst bout of “flu” I ever had was the direct result of the “swine flu vaccine” in the 70’s, so “Thanks, but no thanks.” :(

Because of my job, I regularly take Vitamin C, B-complex, and wash my hands often. After reading up on this flu, I’ve added Vitamin D, and a full glass of grape juice every day. :) Also because of my job, I know very quickly if anything’s “going around”, as sales of 7-Up, gingerale, Gatorade, and popsickles go up dramatically. ;) I also try to steer customers away from ice cream and towards the sherbert that’s made with real fruit juice, so I’m happy to say the flu’s not around here yet. :)

And also, like you, I see the dark clouds gathering, off in the distance and so am doing what I can to make preperation to try and weather the coming storm. :(

Stated perfectly
