There's been a big fuss this week because Michelle Obama wore shorts. She's worn shorts before - to walk the dog, do stuff around the White House. But the photos of her wearing them in that iconic descending-from-Air-Force-One-onto-the-tarmac setting proved too much for the media. Obamas? Check. Summer news doldrums? Check. Controversy? Close enough. It was a story.
And people reacted. The Today Show's poll on whether she should have shown that much thigh got one of the show's biggest responses ever, with 83% pro-shorts. Local papers found "experts" to discuss the implications of the shorts for the Obama White House, international papers analyzed what it said about American culture, the blogosphere took up every angle from what this said about the objectification of women to the taxonomy of the shorts: Hot pants? This falls into the “So what” and “who cares” realm.
My question to all is;
Who care what they [the first family] is wearing
With the eyes of the world on us I would prefer that the first family at least look professional and not look like a WalMart shopper who got caught in the rain.

The bama ladies are dedicated to that fashion called anti-fashion.
It’s the trendy anti-glamor look. It’s been going on a while.
Whatever is fashionable, has a finished look, is put-together, polished, co-ordinated, etc., do just the opposite.
Clunky big shoes, dull colors combined with really loud splashed colors, anything that looks dumpy dull and lumpy, combined with garish colors, that’s the anti-fashion fashion.
As I say, it’s been going on for a while. In certain quarters. Progressives love the look.
Very unattractive—so are the shorts.
And most adult women I've seen flying the friendly skies doesn't dress like that either.
She's evidently reliving her youth...where's the pack pack, tat, nose ring and ipod?

I like dressing down as much as anyone. But even I would not come off of AF1 looking like I was going to the beach. Hell, a lot of people wouldn't dress like that to fly on a commercial flight.
She could dress that way on the plane for comfort, and change into something appropriate in time to deplane in respectful garb.
Sure, it's a hassle having to dress in Sunday best all the time, but hey, it's only 4 years, and it's a pretty good gig. It's not too much to ask. What else does she have to do with her time? Look at those stiff, professional soldiers. She ought to be ashamed.
Yeah, there's bigger issues. But this is sad. Show some respect.

I think that she & 0bozo just LOVE the irony & payback (in their twisted minds) of whitey servants & military snapping to attention as they slither on by. I hope that God will have mercy on our nation and appropriate justice for this embarrassing charade of a pres____ent & his angry bitchy wife, and throw them out of office soon.
It doesn’t look like a family that should be getting off Air Force One and walking in between two soldiers at attention in dress blues, but I’m not freaking out about it.
Tacky is something I’ve come to accept in our first family.
I wonder why she looks so unloved and unkempt. There is something wrong here, and that’s what everyone is sensing. She does not look put together, but looks more like a woman who is at the end of her emotional/mental/spiritual rope and I think that is what is disturbing us all.
The point being that they have no respect for the office. George Bush would not enter the oval office unless dressed in suit and tie. Air Force One is a floating extension of the oval office. They are seen worldwide everytime they land somewhere. Both her and Barack should dress the part as representatives and leaders of the free world. And as long as taxpayers are paying their salaries, we should reserve the right to comment.
They would say “It’s AIRFORCE ONE!! It’s going from one air conditioned compartment to another! Why the need for mowing the lawn clothes??”
For God’s sake, Ms Hussein, cover up those tree trunk bow legs! You’re a disgrace.

I posted on another thread that I have seen better dressed state fair goers on line at the cheese curd stand.
