John Kieran pens a whimsical profile of Cincinnati pitcher Paul Derringer. The Reds look to be Series-bound. But they are not as much of a lock as the Yankees. The standings are a little blurry, but that is a 13 game lead for the pin stripes.

What other sports were big in those days?

I remember seeing billiards and horse racing and boxing being reported and rowing
