I wish I had the trained skills of using a Katana, I have researched buying a modern day steel type for cutting but carrying one is impractical in the US for defensive purposes.
The gun control people introduced restrictions on blade length to prevent you from defending yourself with swords or knives. So our last chance is clever disguise…

I already have something thats a design from a Soviet era spy school, it involves a compact C02 cartridge, a spring loaded large diameter needle such used for injecting spices into meats and concealed in an everyday carried looking device.

A clip knife that can be opened with one hand is a great defensive weapon. If you carry a gun, carry the knife in your off pocket (the one opposite your gun) in case someone tries to get your gun out of the holster, all you have to do is jam the gun down to prevent them form getting it and then get your knife out and show them what their intestines look like.

In the South in the early 19th century, dueling was a test of manhood. Plenty of students at UVA died in this madness over petty insults. You had to practice both sword and pistol, because the challenged got to choose the weapon.
