Cryptozoologist to search Cameron Lake for monster
WESTERLY NEWSSEPTEMBER 17, 2009
Cryptozoologist John Kirk is anxious to find out more about an elusive lake creature people have reported seeing in Cameron Lake for years.
"Our organization has received reports coming from Cameron Lake since 2004," Kirk said in a release. "Witnesses have been describing what looks like a dark creature in the lake."
He will get his chance to find out on Saturday, Sept. 19, when he and his crew plan to look for scientific evidence of a creature -- traversing the lake and attempting to lure it to the surface to get a visual sighting.
Kirk is the co-founder of the BC Scientific Cryptozoology Club (BCSCC) and wrote a book called In the Domain of the Lake Monsters.

I have to admit I love Cryptozoology stuff, shows like Monster Quest and so on ... It’s the little boy in mean that wants to believe Big Foot is real just for the discovery of it all ...
Nice to see some people still have a sense of humor. Or is that "humour"?
I hope my posts are seen in this light.
I have to eat you know. I am on here lunch time mostly. You owe me a meal. :)
I posted this before but what the heck:
My subjects of interests are in history, militaria, religions/theologies, archeology, myths and legends and while I do not generally believe in the following subjects, for fun (and to maintain an open mind) I love reading about alternate/revisionist history (subjects like pre-Columbian transatlantic voyages, etc), crypto-zoology, UFOs and other Fortean happenings.
Forteans are inspired by Charles Fort (1874-1932).
Born of Dutch stock in Albany, New York, Fort spent many years researching scientific literature in the New York Public Library and the British Museum Library. He marshalled his evidence and set forth his philosophy in The Book of the Damned (1919), New Lands (1923), Lo! (1931), and Wild Talents (1932).
He was sceptical of scientific explanations, observing how scientists argued according to their own beliefs rather than the rules of evidence and that inconvenient data was ignored, suppressed, discredited or explained away. He criticised modern science for its reductionism, its attempts to define, divide and separate. Fort’s dictum “One measures a circle beginning anywhere” expresses instead his philosophy of Continuity in which everything is in an intermediate and transient state between extremes.
He had ideas of the Universe-as-organism and the transient nature of all apparent phenomena, coined the term ‘teleportation’, and was perhaps the first to speculate that mysterious lights seen in the sky might be craft from outer space. However, he cut at the very roots of credulity: “I conceive of nothing, in religion, science or philosophy, that is more than the proper thing to wear, for a while.”
To think we have a good bead on everything is at the same time the ultimate human frailty and vanity.
Rest assured that 100 years from now, people will look back on our era and think how primative and silly we were for not even knowing about the things they take for granted.
Mountain Gorillas weren’t verified until 1902 and Megamouth Sharks weren’t discovered until 1976.
There are probably a few large critters out there that we haven’t found yet.
If someone tells me these days that they saw a bigfoot, Nesse, or a UFO the first thing I’m going to ask them is why they didn’t take a picture with their cell phone camera.
A “dark creature in the lake?” So maybe that’s where Michelle goes to swim! Did the creature have large arms?
Hey now!
Cryptozoologist John Kirk is the ancestor of starship captain James Tiberius Kirk, who won’t be born for a few hundred years. Cameron Lake was where “Growing Pains” was filmed. Or somethin’.
Thanks Nikas777.
