The superintendent said that the district could not afford a law suit from a group that does not agree with these students beliefs. They don't have to agree with their beliefs... They just need to mind their own business. If it was signs supporting gay marriage they would be praised.

This is a prohibition of free exercise.

This is a prohibition of free exercise.

And if the signs said "Praise Mohammed, peace and praise be on his name" and a couple "Allah Ackbar" signs added to boot - would that be ok? You can't have it both ways - either everyone gets to do it, or no one does.

Like Marge Simpson says “One person really can change the world... though they usually shouldn’t.”

One freaking harpy, not even associated with the school! When with the schools tell these people to suck it up and deal with it like we do with them?

Point taken - if there is a geleral prohibition of signage, that’s one thing. But my educated guess is that the ban was applied to Christian signage only.

Deciding what people get into the country is (or should be) a concern of the immigration laws.

Thanks.

The school gets their funding from the taxpayers, so if they don't care, I see no reason for the school to either.

I cried a little when I saw the Word of God being torn to shreds by a pack of rampaging teenagers? What were these dunces thinking?

Well then, lets see if they can afford a lawsuit from a group that does agree with these student’s beliefs.

Seen this on FOX this morn. Our Constitution has been co-opted to the point where this school is forced to disallow a perfectly constitutional practice out of fear of a law suit.

I’ve been using it a lot lately. I really wish I didn’t have to.

Why don't the pro-sign people sue the school board for trampling their 1st amendment rights?

The school principal said the signs violate the 1st Amendment, which is incorrect.

The 1st Amendment forbids Congress from passing laws having to do with religion or laws that prohibit the free exercise of religion.

So, the only entity that can violate the 1st Amendment is Congress, if Congress passes a law that does one of those two things.

Common sense tells us that if Congress violates the 1st Amendment by passing a forbidden law, the solution should be that the law be declared null and void.

So, to the school principal (and the person who complained about the cheerleaders’ signs): What law did Congress pass that violates the 1st Amendment?

It’s as simple as that.

How do you screen for Muslims? Their religion approves of lying, or actively performing non-Islam acts to gain access to whatever they feel will further the advance of Islam. Consider, the bombers went to a strip-bar and drank alcohol the night before they murdered 3,000 people. Why? To get one last 'hoo-rah' in, or to elude and confuse anyone who may be following them? Surely, a religous fanatic wouldn't act that way the day before he commits suicide and murders innocents, wouldn't you expect him to spend the day in mediatation at a Mosque? Lies are encouraged to confuse and confound the enemy. Why would immigration be any different?

Sorry folks. A school sponsored event is not a place you get to exercise unfettered free speech. If these cheerleaders’ signs said something anti-religious, pro-obama, or pro-islam, likely you guys would be the first ones to lead the charge to the court house over it. School districts that give an open mic or the grand stage of the football field over to people that want to use it to push religious dogma are just asking to get sued. I want my tax dollars being spent on education, not lawyers.

Dude; you are preaching to the choir.

If the Baptists can do this, so can the Muslims, Buddhists, Wiccans and the Satanic church also gets to make their address too.

It’s too bad, for the majority of the people have to bend to the wishes of a single person - who doesn’t even live there.

Understood. I would like to think that those actively advocating and aiding in violent activity - no matter what the “philosophy” behind it” - would be kept out. But you cite some very important logistical concerns. I do believe the US forbade active menbers of the Nazi party from entering the country, but of course many simply lied on the paperwork. Hence all the deportation cases later, for those whose lies were exposed.

If these cheerleaders’ signs said something anti-religious, pro-obama, or pro-islam

But the sign wasn't any of those things. It was just a motivational phrase. My wife is a school nurse, and she has a quote from the book of Job hanging on the office wall: "For there is hope for a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again." Nobody has complained, because it's a possitive messagw everyone can understand.
