This year, baseball was over in August.

But anyway, look at how the 1939 World Series is almost over...on October 8. Didn’t we just have Game 1 of the LDS yesterday?

One other thing I noticed about the article; apparently the Red’s fans were “sweltering” in the “misplaced July heat wave.” We all know that can’t be true. It was actually COLD in October of 1939 while the fans in 2009 will be sweltering today. I know...Al Gore told me so.

Looks like the Yankees are going to make short work of things again this year.

I noticed that USC chalked up its first win of the season, blanking the Washington State Cougars in the Coliseum. Next week, Illinois will be coming to town.

Unfortunately for historians and USC fans I won't have any Trojan coverage to until the Cal game on October 28.

That game, up in Berkeley's Memorial Stadium, should be quite a donnybrook. Troy has had two straight losses in Berkeley, but Coach Jones' '39 Trojans seem to have significantly improved over his '35 and '37 teams.
