Angels Sox Game 1
Posted on 10/08/2009 8:44:23 PM PDT by the invisib1e hand
First of all, the first base umpire is smoking crack. Or he's really desperate about his gambling debts.
Second,
Angels Stadium. Not only is that fake rock sculpture out past center field tacky, not only does it make the place look like a scene from the Flintstones, but those little fireworks that go off when a home run is hit out there are a really juvenile touch.
Otherwise, it's a pretty good game.

well, it was a good game. between the ump and the 3 run lead, I’m not sure the Sox have a shot.

That 1st base ump is either medicated or has money on this game.

Well, it is right by Disneyland. The rock formation in the shape of a big A is kind of a nice touch.

“...like a scene from the Flintstones”
I like the Flintstones, so that’s a good thing, right?
I bet they don’t have any seats behind support beams like a certain overrated stadium on Yawkey Way does.

This is FR - there are codes of conduct.

If i told you how much I paid for one of those seats once...only to see the Yankees lose 12-something...and then the humiliation of seeing those idiotic t-shirts...don't get me started.
Anyway...at least Fenway isn't a cartoon.

CB Buckner has been about the worst umpire in either league for a long time. How he could miss to obvious ppays like that is beyond comprehension. Suprised me that Francona didn't argue more on the second one.
If I were Yuklis I might be tempted to double check with Buckner on every play, like, "you sure?" Of course, that would get him run.

Yeah. I’d call him an arrogant dick if it weren’t for those rules.

They did call him safe, finally, didn’t they? I turned my attention to FR and looked up and saw the bases loaded again, and the ball rolling toward a dugout while Angels were scoring...

Why this clown, or Bob Davidson who was working today’s game, were chosen for the playoffs is beyond me.

CB Buckner has been about the worst umpire in either league for a long time. True. Why the heck does he get postseason gigs? Seniority? I thought umps had to meet performance standards before getting postseason assignments, and that they were constantly evaluated? CB is completely incompetent.
Thankfully the lousy call on Youk's jumping catch didn't translate into any runs.

I thought there was a rating system myself, based on performance. Who knows, maybe it became a union thing. It certaily hasn’t helped the game. He is awful and always has been.
