“The most ambitious organization in today’s interfaith movement is the United Religions Initiative (URI), founded by William Swing, the Episcopal Bishop of California.”

United Religions Initiative (from URI website)

History: Creating the Initiative

The seed for the URI was planted in 1993 when the United Nations invited William Swing, Episcopal Bishop of California, to host an interfaith service in San Francisco. That night the Bishop found it hard to sleep … he told himself, “If the nations of the world are working together for peace through the UN, then where are the religions of the world?” From this inspiration, a vision took shape to create an organization whereby people of diverse faiths and from all sectors of society would cooperate for peace and justice for all.

From the first global summit in 1996 to the Charter signing in 2000, URI engaged thousands of people from diverse religions, spiritual expressions and indigenous traditions to create the URI Charter. Five global summits and numerous gatherings and consultations took place in different regions of the world. URI used a highly effective methodology for positive change, Appreciative Inquiry, pioneered by Dr. David Cooperrider of Case Western Reserve University and the revolutionary insights for organizing offered by Dee Hock, founder of VISA international.

Global Council Trustees

There are currently 28 Global Council Trustees. The Trustees of theURI are exemplars who manifest the vision and values of the Preamble,Purpose and Principles, and who model leadership and service by theiractions. They have a deep commitment to serve the whole of the URI community.

Founding Trustee
The Rt. Rev. William E. Swing, USA - President

Executive Trustee
The Rev. Canon Charles P. Gibbs, USA - Executive Director

Chair
Ms. Yoland Trevino, USA

Vice Chair
Ms. Marites Africa, SEAPac
Mr. Shlomo Alon, MENA

Finance and Operations Committee Chair
Rabbi Doug Kahn, USA

Secretary
Ms. Perri Kathryn McCary, USA

Assistant Secretary
Mr. Pelecinnah Josiah-Pele, Nigeria

Another Perspective of United Religions Initiative

While Christians around the world lament the election of a homosexual Bishop at the recent Episcopal General Convention, few realize that this denomination has condoned outright paganism for years.

Majestic Episcopal cathedrals built long ago to honor God have welcomed the world’s pantheon of deities. Occult rituals at New York’s Cathedral of St. John the Divine and San Francisco’s Grace Cathedral have spread the twisted message that the Biblical God is only one among a multitude of equal deities, spirits, forces and ascended masters.

While their respective bishops have turned a blind eye to the pagan intrusion, California’s Bishop William Swing went a step further. In 1996, he founded the United Religions Initiative (URI), a global organization designed to bring all religions together to dialogue and seek common ground. “You can work in terms of the model of the UN,” he explained, “where you have the General Assembly and the Security Council.”

Bishop Swing’s ambitious quest has found favor among others who share his vision for spiritual unity — a oneness designed to replace the old “divisive” Biblical absolutes blamed for war and conflict.

The fact is, those who base their faith on the Bible can’t join Bishop Swing’s converging streams toward planetary oneness. They know only one God, only one sacred Book, and only one Door to eternal life. Since they can accept nothing less, they must reject an all-inclusive global spirituality.

No wonder interfaith leaders like Bishop Swing see such Christians as narrow and intolerant “extremists” who block their vision of unity. Not only do we clash with the URI, we violate UNESCO’s 1994 “Declaration on the role of religion in the promotion of a culture of peace,” a “soft” international law.

By 1999, Bishop Swing had moved his headquarters to the Presidio, a former U.S. military base overlooking the entrance to the San Francisco Bay.

The Presidio’s other tenants included the Gorbachev Foundation, FEMA and the Thoreau Center for Sustainability — an office complex that would unite a multitude of globalist environmental, spiritual and educational organizations in a common pursuit: to establish a new world order based on universal beliefs and values.

Visiting San Francisco in 1999, I stopped by the Presidio. As I searched for the new URI headquarters, I took note of some of its neighbors. They included:

* Resource Center for the United Nations

* The Institute for Sustainable Development

* Partnerships for Change

* Rudolf Steiner Foundation

* International Forum on Globalization

* Tides Center (had what seemed to be a Buddhist altar in its large reception room)

RELIGIOUS RESPONSIBILITY

Our communities of faith have a responsibility to encourage conduct imbued with wisdom, compassion, sharing, charity, solidarity, and love; inspiring one and all to choose the path of freedom and responsibility. Religions must be a source of helpful energy.

… our religions must not identify themselves with political, economic, or social powers, so as to remain free to work for justice and peace. We should distinguish fanaticism from religious zeal.

We will favor peace by countering the tendencies of individuals and communities to assume or even to teach that they are inherently superior to others …

We will promote dialogue and harmony between and within religions … respecting the search for truth and wisdom that is outside our religion. We will establish dialogue with all, striving for a sincere fellowship…

We commit ourselves to –

* work towards a reduction in the scandalous economic differences between human groups and other forms of violence and threats to peace…

* overcome all forms of discrimination, colonialism, exploitation, and domination and to promote institutions based on shared responsibility and participation…. Human rights, including religious freedom and the rights of minorities, must be respected.

* assure a truly humane education for all. We emphasize education for peace, freedom, and human rights, and religious education to promote openness and tolerance.

* Commit ourselves to a civil society which respects environmental and social justice.

* work towards a world without weapons and to dismantle the industry of war.

Any connections with the UU church the family attended on Mercer Island and HI? (IIRC HI church house draft dodgers and members of SDS during Vietnam war)

ALSO, don’t remember which thread it was last night stating that an Odinga was involved in the SDS chaos in NYC near where BO lived.....Fred do you remember last summer me sending you some information on the name changes when the family changed from the Christian faith to Moslum? There were so many O names, you comented on how confusing it was.

Is there a connection with this person, and the Obama family? How involved were they with the SDS?

I remember in the fifties being in Odessa (Ukraine) and Batumi (Georgia) or in the Baltic States, but then the USSR, the constantly shortage of food in the grocery stores during the power of Communism. People were battling to survive starvation while here in the U.S. and Western Europe the shelves were over floating. Our educational system is covering up this travesty and indoctrinating our young people the same way that took place in the USSR, while still living in affluent society not regarding what will happen to their children and grandchildren. AMERICA needs to wake up!!!

MAN SLAIN IN CHASE; CAR TIED TO BRINK’S
Boston Globe - Friday, October 23, 1981
Author: Associated Press

Police shot one man to death and arrested a second (Sekou Odinga, aka Nathaniel Burns) in Queens today in a shootout after their car was identified as one used in a $1.6 million Brink’s holdup linked to the Weather Underground , authorities said.

Andrew Bottari, an investigator with the Queens detective division, said two men in their 20s - both wearing bulletproof vests - were spotted riding in a car linked to the robbery in Nanuet Tuesday. A Brink’s guard and two police officers were killed in that holdup.

A chase ensued today, and a shootout occurred at 34th avenue and 127th street, an industrial area just north of Shea Stadium, Bottari said.

The arrested man had a fake identification, and no identification had been made on the dead man, Bottari said.

A spokesman for the Queens district attorney said a 9-mm weapon was recovered from the car. That type of gun was used in the Brink’s job.

Four people were arrested after the Brinks holdup. Three have been connected with the Weather Underground , including long-time fugitive Katherine Boudin.

Boudin, who had been a fugitive 11 years, and other three suspects were taken into court today on charges filed in connection with the holdup.

Two of the suspects arrested with Boudin are members of the Weather Underground - Judith Clark, 31, of Manhattan and David J.A. Gilbert, 37, of Cambridge, Mass. The fourth suspect, Samuel Brown, 41, has a 23-year record of arrests and convictions for larceny, weapons possession and other offenses but no known prior connection to radical groups.

Police officers armed with rifles and shotguns manned the rooftops of buildings surrounding the courthouse and nearby jail to guard against any possible attempt to free the suspects.

The four were captured in a shootout with police at a roadblock in Nyack, a New York City suburb, after the robbery of $1.6 million in cash from a Brink’s truck at a shopping mall. Two policeman and a security guard were killed in the robbery and subsequent shootout.

Authorities said the money was to be used to fund the group’s terrorist activities.

FBI agents and police in several states were seeking three to five black men and a white woman, believed to be wounded, who shot their way past the roadblock and escaped. The men involved in the shootout today were black, police said.

The search has uncovered an alliance of radical groups, a nest of “ safe houses “ stashed with weapons, some leads to unsolved cases and plans by the militants for attacks on law enforcement officials.

In one such “safe house” in the Bronx, detectives found a Wednesday morning newspaper, suggesting some or all of the escaped suspects had visited the apartment after Tuesday’s shootout.

Investigators are convinced that the long dormant Weather Underground has merged with the violent Black Liberation Army to form the May 19th Coalition - named after the birth date of Ho Chi Minh and Malcolm X.

They believe the new group may have arranged the 1979 prison escape of Black Liberation Army leader Joanne Chesimard, 34, who was serving a life sentence for the murder of a New Jersey state trooper.

In their search for the missing suspects, police and FBI agents, said, they found weapons, disguises, radical literature and diagrams of police stationhouses in raids on five apartments Thursday in the New York City area.

Police also believe the suspects may also be linked to the ambush of a Brinks truck in the Bronx last June that left one guard dead.

The maps, found in an apartment in East Orange, N.J., showed the radical group was planning attacks on the Queens Criminal Court building, which houses the district attorney’s office, and six police precincts in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

In another development, Eva Rosahn, 30, who allegedly owned one of the getaway cars used in the Nyack holdup, was freed on $10,000 bail after an hour-long hearing in state Supreme Court in Queens to determine if the bail money came from the robbery. Rosahn’s mother, Sonya, testified at the hearing, which was held under tight security, that she withdrew the bail money yesterday from her account in a branch of the New York Bank for Savings.

Her daughter’s attorney, Sharon Flood, told Justice Thomas Agresta that she was present when the withdrawal was made.

Rosahn was jailed on charges of rioting stemming from a Kennedy Airport protest against the South African Springboks rugby team, and Queens District Attorney John Santucci won an order to postpone her release until after the bail hearing.

Boudin, on the FBI’s most wanted list for 11 years, has been hiding since 1970 when she fled an explosion of the Weather Underground ‘s bomb factory in a Greenwich Village townhouse. Three people were killed in that blast.

She and her 1-year-old son Chesa recently shared a Manhattan apartment with an investigative reporter who said did not know her true identity.

Thanks, MHGinTN.

“America is on the same highway to hell taken previously by the Russians, warned Solzhenitsyn.”

My grandparents fled Russia because of the *highway to hell* they saw happening. Never much talked about it but they did leave with just the clothes on their back and their 2 boys.

To honor them, I will not be quiet. We should never fear the “town square test”. I will fight with whatever means necessary to maintain my family’s freedom. That’s a promise.

See post 13: See the church membership of this “interfaith” coalition (need screen shots to post list):

http://www.uccfiles.com/swms/

Christ-less-ness is going mainstream in American churches today.

This re-defined Christianity movement crosses denominational lines and fits right in with Progressive/marxists atheists and Global "cosmic-consciousness" New Agers like Oprah Winfrey (a former Christian who received further "enlightenment") and Barbara Marx Hubbard (who apparently channels a spirit named "christ" from whom she receives mad profundities to bestow upon a congregational fan-base breathless with anticipation to hear the newest oracular pronouncement).

~~~~~~~~~
LEVIATHAN #10: Religious Pluralism: the erasure of America’s founding Christian-based worldview --- even within the Christian Church.
. I just posted this on a thread but it serves here to illustrate how the Christian church is being destroyed from within---
"Christopher Hitchens says, "If the story of Jesus Christ isn't literally true, then Christianity is a fraud.""
Freeper Woweeitsme: Hitchens is absolutely right. As a matter of fact, Paul says that in Corinthians! Is Christopher reading his Bible again? /s
He must be! Pray God opens up his eyes:
I Cor 15
...If Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. 15Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: (snip)
20But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 21For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
23But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming. 24Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. 25For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.
26The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
As the Apostle Paul and Christopher Hitchens point out--- Any definition of "Christian" must begin with the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, only-begotten, God in the flesh, crucified and raised for our Eternal life and Salvation from sin through faith in Him and His shed blood.
Words like "blood," "sin," "Cross," "Hell," "saved by the blood of Jesus" are not welcome in many churches today because they have been identified as words that hinder church attendance and church membership. Furthermore, they are an impediment to global religious unity.
But...these same churches are aligning themselves with groups and people like Barbara Marx Hubbard, who said, “We are immortal…We can create new life forms and new worlds. We are gods!” --- a revelation channeled from her spirit guide ‘Christ.’
The age of the LEVIATHAN is creating strange bed-fellows, many of whom call themselves "Christian."
I can call myself a duck, even though I am a human, but the mere statement does not transform me into a duck.
The United States' Constitution was founded upon and protects the very Christian worldview LEVIATHAN seeks to destroy.
What does LEVIATHAN fear?
Obama’s FCC, liberal churches, and the “media justice” mob
By Michelle Malkin • October 28, 2009 04:59 AM
My syndicated column today (reprinted below) probes the FCC/left-wing church alliance to silence conservative critics of illegal immigration through “hate speech” regulation. Tip of the iceberg.
Jeffrey Lord at the American Spectator first broke the story of how United Church of Christ officials met with kindred spirit/FCC Commissioner Michael Copps earlier this month before launching a nationwide campaign to pressure the FCC to crack down on cable TV and talk radio figures.
The motto of the “So We Might See” anti-”hate speech” campaign is: “Without media justice, there will be no social justice!” The same Marx-loving “social justice” crowd is behind the “media justice” mob — including George Soros’s Open Society Institute, Media Democracy Fund, and Media Matters; the Ford Foundation; the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation; etc., etc., etc.
Their goal: government redistribution of media wealth. As “The Media Justice Fund” put it: The movement “is grounded in the belief that social and economic justice will not be realized without the equitable redistribution and control of media and communication technologies.” And there’s that phrase “transformative change” again:
* Media change of all kinds must expose and directly confront the mechanics of structural racism and systemic oppression.
* Leaders from historically marginalized communities must be developed as effective media activists and strategic movement communicators.
* Media policy advocacy and strategic communications are more effective when clearly relevant to the primary justice issues of the movement for racial justice, economic and gender equity, and youth rights.
* Compelling communications and media activism campaigns must be both rooted in critical issues and coordinated across issue, sector, and region for national impact.
* When justice sectors strengthen communications strategies, center the use of culture as a communications tool, employ winning frames and messages, and strengthen their influence over media rules and rights, the possibilities for transformative change skyrocket.
“Transformative change” = a media landscape purged of the Right’s most powerful voices.
The White House communications shop gives two thumbs up, no doubt.
