I watched someone being interviewed about the Fort Hood tragedy yesterday, and prominently in the background was that clock tower.
I don't know if it was set up that way purposely or not, but the 1966 shooting never came up.

1. I hope this is just coincidence and not due to something in the water. These events all took place within about 30 miles either side of I-35 along the 100 mile distance from Austin to Waco, Texas:
* November 5, 2009: The massacre at Fort Hood by a muslim traitor. 13 killed, 3
* A 1993 raid by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the subsequent siege by the FBI ended with the burning of the Branch Davidian ranch outside of Waco, Texas in McLennan County. David Koresh, 54 adults and 21 children were found dead after the fire.
* Oct. 16, 1991: A deadly shooting rampage took place in Killeen, Texas, as George Hennard opened fire at a Luby’s Cafeteria, killing 23 people before taking his own life. 20 others were wounded in the attack.
* Aug. 1, 1966: Charles Whitman opened fire from the clock tower at the University of Texas at Austin, killing 16 people and wounding 31.

2. Why wasn't this 'Major' Hasan booted out of the Army for his treasonous remarks in sympathy with, aiding and abetting the enemy, suggesting taking up arms against the aggressor USA? Why is he held to a different standard than 'American'GIs?

I guess we could expand it southward 100 miles on I-35 to San Antonio and back and add the Alamo, MArch 1836.

Do you realize how disparate all those events are, not to mention the time span you used? And the geographical area — do you realize that the area you outlined is as big as some states?
And look at the transient nature of some of the locales — a college campus, the largest military installation in the U.S.
Put your finger down on the map in any other place of similar size with similar demographics and look at incidents of violence over 40-50 years.
Don’t try to make this into anything other than what it was: an act of hateful jihad by a Muslim jerk against innocent people and a nation that had educated him and treated him much better than he deserved.

The UT shootings happen because the guy had a friggin brain tumor and had delusional thinking. This week’s shooting happened because an Islamo-terroist decided he would do his jihad now.

As stated, I love that part of the country and was just observing its odd to have 4 mass killings within a 100 mile distance in the last 50 years. It will be difficult to drive that stretch with out thinking about it.
Some states are 60 miles wide and 100 miles long; its been a while since I went through New England.
Let’s focus on the enemy. I attend tea parties in 105 degrees on July 3.

Have you heard any discussion or links as to the Army did not kick this guy out for his known stated positions against his country and armed forces rather than ship him to Fort Hood for deployment?
Even nuttier were the POTUS and Attorney General who sent tanks in on men, women and children!
I will admit sometimes our water could use some improvement, but this area is a wonderful place to live full of decent hard working people. Please don’t make us out to be the land of extremists.

I've only been to Austin twice, but I think it's fair to say that 1966 was a different time there.

A lot of folks feelings, including my own, are understandably raw at this time; didn’t mean to make it worse. Had a stepson in the military when Clinton was cutting em back and I hate that this ‘Major’ was educated at our expense, allowed to stay in the military while the authorities turned a blind eye to his traitorous remarks then kills so many of our best.

You are correct; there were farmers, frat boys and good oleboys taking positions with their deer rifles and returning fire until the cops got there.
I just worry about these ‘gun free zones’ today.

Thank you. Nerves are a little raw in this part of the country today. Ft. Hood is a big part of the Central Texas community — like an old friend. They are good neighbors.
