Check out this video of the "Oasis of the Seas" cruise ship. This is the biggest and most expensive cruise ship ever built and it recently sailed from Turku, Finland. It just arrived at the ship's home port in Fort Lauderdale, Florida three days ago on November 11 where it faces a challenge to fill its multitude of berths as we Americans are now struggling under Obama's recession and trying to keep our heads above water.
Built at the cost of $1.5 billion, this 16-deck cruise vessel is nearly 40 percent larger than the industry's next-biggest ship and five times larger than the unsinkable Titanic. With 2,700 cabins it can accommodate 6,300 passengers that 2,100 crew members will serve.
Royal Caribbean International has revolutionized the cruise industry in recent years with such features as various "neighborhoods"parks, squares and arenas with special themes. One of them will be a tropical environment that will include palm trees.
Other attractions including the FlowRider surf simulator, ice-skating rinks, cantilevered whirlpools, rock climbing walls and the Royal Promenade - an entertainment boulevard stretching nearly the length of the ship. The innovation continues on-board Oasis of the Seas with a range of new attractions and engineering marvels.
Within seven distinctly different neighborhood concepts there areas providing guests with the opportunity to seek out relevant experiences based on their personal style, preference or mood. Such areas as a Central Park, Boardwalk, the Royal Promenade, Pool and Sports Zone, Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center, Entertainment Place and Youth Zone. These many additions make for an extraordinary park at sea, a thrilling zip line that races diagonally nine-decks above an open-air atrium, an original handcrafted carousel, an aquatic amphitheater called the Aqua Theater that serves as a pool by day and an oceanfront theater by night.
Check out the YouTube video on this thing, It is incredible.
Royal Caribbeans, "Oasis of the Seas" video
This is totally cool. My Hubby said he is working on getting time off from work to takie me on its maiden voyage Dec 5.
I told him as long as no one starts claiming it to be unsinkable, I am all for it.
Very cool! I hope you can make it!
I wish someone would takie me.
We traveled with RC a few years ago and the capt was psyched at the chance to sail on this thing.
For 90% of the passengers, it is just another place to drink.
Why go an a getaway with 5000 other people. Do a Wind Jammer Cruise!
Royal Caribbean have the best ships and this one won’t disappoint.
"Why go an a getaway with 2200 other people. Do a cruise on a French Line Passenger cruise instead"Now if people listened to such hogwash back then, just think of all the memories they would have lost out on?
I sailed on Voyager of the Seas back in 2004 when it was the largest cruise ship in the world. I was fortunate to have a state room with a balcony otherwise I don’t think I’d have survived the trip. No matter how large the space, I absolutely hate being confined.
Wind Spirit Cruise. Even better.
Fun part is getting drunk and as the boat continues to sail, at night, stand in bow area, with your feet together, facing into the wind.
Try to stay up. The only ones who could do it were those of us who snowboard. (That and I think the movement of the ship counterbalanced our own listing from side to side. LOL)
Cruise ships: big, fat floating targets full of helpless, disarmed sheep.
The smaller ships are a lot more fun!!!!
Were going on our 6th through the Panama Canal next month.
I went on the second voyage of the Navigator of the Seas back in ‘01 i think and at that time i think that was the biggest, and it was BIG.....And clean and very nice.
I can only imagine what this thing is like....
Poseidon adventure anyone?
Looks too dang topheavy (HMS Mary Rose).
