Tiger Woods Confesses
The Business Insider ^ | 12/2/09 | Nicholas Carlson

"I have not been true to my values and the behavior my family deserves."

Tiger Woods, allegedly caught cheating on his wife, just posted an apology on his Web site.

Bonus: See who forced Tiger Woods to confess.

We think it's good enough to keep him in Nikes for years:

I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart. I have not been true to my values and the behavior my family deserves. I am not without faults and I am far short of perfect. I am dealing with my behavior and personal failings behind closed doors with my family. Those feelings should be shared by us alone.

Although I am a well-known person and have made my career as a professional athlete, I have been dismayed to realize the full extent of what tabloid scrutiny really means. For the last week, my family and I have been hounded to expose intimate details of our personal lives. The stories in particular that physical violence played any role in the car accident were utterly false and malicious. Elin has always done more to support our family and shown more grace than anyone could possibly expect.

Well, I was taught and my children were taught, when they were young, not to pay any attention to celebrities on packages. Even my grand children don’t pay any attention to them. They have better things to do. If celebrities have that much power over us, our focus is in the wrong place.

“It always shocks me when people who make more money than I can believe and more then anyone I know will EVER earn, put together.... and are clueless about HOW TO LIVE!

What is so complicated about doing what is right? I am certain that with even a tenth of what some of these people earn, I would be just as honorable and self respecting as I am on my piddling income.”

Shameful but it may not be the wealth but a character flaw to begin with.

And how is Adultery supposed to end? Maybe she will forgive him for the sake of keeping the family together. Maybe he might realize that what he has at home is pretty special and he'll do whatever it takes to fix himself and this whole situation.

I for one believe that this does not automatically have to be the end of their marriage. He already did the right thing by admitting to it and taking responsibility which is more than most men do. I would rather see them work it out and keep the family together instead of hoping for another broken family in America.

Many of us here are defending what we consider a basic conservative value here.

Maybe so... but, from what I saw (also) there were FReepers basically trashing another basic value (having to do with our Constitutional rights) in this story...

And that was one thing I posted frequently on, during this story...

And actually, I would consider that one Constitutional rights issue to be the overwhelmingly more important "story" here -- and way over and beyond whatever was going on with Tiger Woods privately...

And yet..., even so... many were actually more concerned with the salacious gossip and rumor-mongering than the Constitutional issue raised (in discussion here and the mistaken assertions that FReepers were making in regards to it...).

Just call a press conference and cry, THAT'S what they want to see.

Mid-life crisis??? He is in his early 30’s....has not reached the seven year itch in his marriage.

I pray for him and his family, I don’t want anyone to feel the pain and loss of Love they are feeling at this time.

Everybody loves dirty laundry.

From what I see of the "piling on" -- on Free Republic, with salacious gossip and rumor-mongering -- I would heartily agree, that this is so... :-)

I hadn’t thought of it that way and it’s very relevant.

His problems go much deeper than what a simple “apology” can fix. Saying these words does not solve the issue. Yeah, I’m sorry I eat too much chocolate, too, but being caught with a candy bar will not fix what mindset allowed me to eat it in the first place. I don’t think these incidents will harm Woods any more than they things harm some other celebrities. As Rush says, with some it’s a “resume enhancer.”

I am by no means perfect but I cannot live with my conscience when I make wrong decisions. It is easier to just do the right thing.

Fortunately, I have NO problems that a little more money would not cure.

My father always said: ‘If the only problems you ever have are money problems, you will be fine’.

Just so people know what I'm talking about, this is what I posted several times...

Just so everyone knows... ya don't need an attorney to refuse to talk to the police. But, if the police are pressing you, then you might want to get one. Otherwise, never talk to the police under any circumstances...

And with the police always looking for a charge to put on someone (Hey! It's their job... LOL...), the best advice that you or I or anyone can get is to never ever talk to the police under any circumstances, anywhere at anytime...

Talking to the Police by Professor James Duane

Professor James Duane’s now famous 5th Amendment lecture - popularly known as “Don’t talk to the police!” - has amassed a considerable internet following. The lecture, given as part of Regent Law School’s spring preview weekend.

It's called for.

The Tiger image most of America has is totally fake. He is not a nice guy at all, far from it.

If you had posted this it probably wouldn’t have been deleted.

Just remember Jesus said to the Pharisees, when presented him with a woman they caught in adultery: “He who is without sins cast the first stone”!!!

I believe most very rich people including celebrities have no morals and have no scruples. Their fame and fortune has turned them into relativists. It is this relativism that has so corroded and corrupted their thought processes and ethical values to the point of complete chaos which often surfaces as self destructive tendencies.

Do you have unimaginably hot women more or less throwing themselves at you wherever you go? Ever had a "difficult" period with a spouse at the same time? It's not to justify his actions, but there's a reason the phrase, "deliver us from temptation" is in the Bible.

I only saw two of them, but they ain't nowhere near "unimaginably hot."

I have no sympathy for him. He chose to get married, probably because it made him even more marketable, with the pretty wife, cute babies, and pretend perfect family life. These days, he could slut around with as many women as he wanted, and while I wouldn't respect that, at least he wouldn't be slapping a wife and small children in the face, forever.

I have no respect for people who cheat. It's taking the person you claimed to love more than any other and pissing on them. Get a damn divorce first.
