Several dozen Asian students say they don't feel safe at South Philadelphia High School, after several fights here last week where Asian students said they were targeted by African-American students.
Senior Duong Ly (right) says the racial tensions at his school are real:
"Even if the Asian students and the African-American students study together, they still don't like us. Because why? Because we are Asian."
Senior Amina Velasquez saw the fights:
"They just were jumping people who were Asian. And it was really horrible because a girl who was close to everyone, they just turned on her and jumped her."
The Asian students say they'll boycott classes here all week. Math teacher Dean Coder supports the students:
"I think they have to have a zero tolerancy for any ethnic slurs and any intimidation. Why isn't this called a hate crime? When you have a bunch of black kids picking on an Asian kid strictly because he's Asian, why isn't that a hate crime?"
School district officials met with the Chinese American Student Association here last week, but the students were not satisfied. The Asian students plan to meet and study at another location during school hours.
Regional superintendent Michael Silverman (right) says that security has been beefed up at the school, and the district is reaching out to the Asian students to help them feel safe again:
"The reality is, on Thursday there was fighting and on Wednesday evening there was fighting. What we're trying to really focus on right now is to bring everybody back to school, to make the school safe, and have kids learn to work with each other."
Ten students were suspended and several sought medical treatment.
Silverman says he'll continue to talk with Asian student leaders but doesn't know how long it will take to convince the students to return.
School officials say the clashes are an aberration that contradicts efforts to improve race relations.
So, shut up and take it....
It’s not racism, it’s simply beating up the smart students who are ruining the grade curve.
No blacks are eternal victims. Any crimes that commit are justified. Hence, no hate crime.
And we are required to bail them out, subsidize them, forgive them until we become the United African States of America.
Throw racist Latinos in the mix as well.
Like any race, blacks, Latinos, whites all can get along on a one-on-one basis. Congregate them and have them compete for anything (grades, money, women, power, women, status, women) are racism always rears its head.
I wonder if they actually are hypocrits, or if maybe they are so poorly educated that they actually believe that the word ‘racism’ only applies to black victims?
They got the aberrant behavior part right. The Asian students should band together and with there families withdraw en-mass and arrange for alternative education. Hit the school where it hurts, in the pocketbook. Watch how fast the officials come around when the money gets cut from a lower headcount
OK, ‘fess up! Who sold the Asian students the clue? Us Honkies have known there were black racists since the ‘60s.
No. It’s taught that way. They’re taught it is impossible for a minority to be racist, BECAUSE they have no power to deny things from whites.
That’s the old line.
Asian students study hard and make good grades. They are probably an outsize portion of the honor roll. Inner city Negroes believe that the Asian kids are only doing that to dis them.
If the Asian parents were to do that and then the schools “turn around” the Asian parents would be making a huge mistake by putting their kids back in government school after having made alternative arrangements.
I was skeptical, it turns out justifiably so.

And watch the standardized test scores drop 30 percentage points.
“Racism” is entirely the belief that race identity determines one’s rights and privileges i.e social status. It does not matter which race is on top if any. Black people in America are far and away the most intensely racist group in the population. Racial violence and resentment proceed from that basic Racism.
The pot is boiling and if it boils over things are going to get ugly.
The operative phrase is “out of government schools.” Any parent who cares for his children more than for his golf game or her new diet will get the kids out of government schools however around they might turn.
0ba-Mao instigated all of this when he said “get in their faces” and when he said the cop in Boston “acted stupidly” and in many other reckless things he has said.
Great idea, but I know what would happen. The Asian school would be safe, clean and effective, with good test scores. Teachers would want to teach there, and smart students would want to go there. The original school, on the other hand, having lost its Asian students and being even more black, would be in even worse shape than before. At that point the blacks would begin to scream that it’s “racist” and “unfair” that the Asians get to go to a nicer, safer school with better teachers and equipment. The blacks would then “demand” the right to go to the Asian school, threatening riots if they didn’t get their way. It’s been like that since the 1960s and ‘70s, when I went to high school. Substitute “Asian” for “white,” and that is just what happened at my school.
