I used to watch Good Morning America.

I switched to Today.

For two days. (7 minutes or each hour on TV those shows, then entrainment, celebrity, a boo hoo story, and a consumer scare, eh alert). No thanks.

Now I search out mt own news

And what is scary is these morning, female audience targeted kaffeeklatsches, with their human interest stories are the on-deck circle for nightly news anchors.

I usually turn the TV to GMA in the mornings, and was stunned ABC selected Diane Sawyer to replace Charlie Gibson (formerly of GMA), especially after the disaster of Katie Couric (formerly of the Today Show).

Seeing her on GMA, it is clear Sawyer does not have the intellectual heft one would expect a network would want in an evening anchor.

Similarly, why did ABC select George Stephanopoulos to replace Sawyer? Stephanopoulos does not have a warm personality one would think networks would want in a morning show cohost. After all, David Hartman, an affable actor, was GMA's original male cohost. The reason is these morning shows are the on-deck circle for evening anchors, and Stephanopoulos has not paid his dues to be ABC World News anchor. Once Sawyer retires (she will turn 64 next week), I will bet Stephanopoulos will replace her.

IT is clear network news are not about ratings or attracting views. It is not about talent or skill of the reporters and anchors. It is a good old boys/girls group where you pay your dues and you get rewarded with various anchor chairs.

And they wonder why everyone is turning to Fox news.

Fox in the Morning. My TV hasn’t been on the others in years.

I used to watch those morning venues, then I got cable and switched to Fox&Friends.

It is usually watchable, except on the weekends. Then, I watch long enough to get the morning news and turn the TV off.

I never could watch Sawyer, whether on the morning show or evening specials. She is too smarmy.

I used to watch the Today Show exclusively back in the 80’s-90’s, then shifted over to FOX and Friends.

Now my news comes exclusively from this site each morning.
TV never gets turned on in the morning.

A cup of coffee and Free Republic and I’m more informed than most people I see for the rest of the day.

Beck, Limbaugh and news reports end up being refreshers on what I read every morning right here.

DVD/Tivo Redeye on Fox. It's a hoot, and and very un-PC.

Can a show that's on at 3am(EST) be all that good? Well, look at the ratings...

The ratings came out for September and Red Eye is up over 30% in total viewers and up 50% in the key demo (25-54) since July. They have more overall viewers than every CNBC show, every MSNBC show that is on before Hardball, most of HLN, and American Morning on CNN. {snip}

Red Eye averaged 432,000 total viewers and 202,000 in the demo. Let’s deal with the demo first – CNN’s 8pmET show, hosted by Campbell Brown, averaged 191,000 in the demo. Let’s just let that one sink in – Fox News had more people in the all important A25-54 demographic watching their channel at three in the morning (east coast time) than CNN had for the show that leads off their prime time. This says as much about Fox News as it does about CNN. Wow.

You also watch RedEye on Hulu, and of course, youtube has a lot of Red Eye footage.
