A 6ft garden Christmas tree planted by a couple 30 years ago now towers over their home after growing to 50ft tall.
Avril Rowlands, 64, and her husband Christopher, 65, bought the pine tree from a garden centre for £6 in 1979 and expected it to grow to around 10ft.
To celebrate planting it in their front garden, the couple took a photograph of it with their new home and garage in the background.
But after 30 years of care and attention the tree stands 50ft tall and it is still growing.
The tree is now the focal point of their village Inkberrow, Worcs and even attracts visitors from across the world.
Mrs Rowlands, a television writer, said: "The tree's impact on our lives has been incredible......

The first pic looks like Charlie Brown’s tree.
Inspiring.
I have a Sequoiadendron Giganteum (Giant Sequoia) that I will plant in the corner of my yard in the spring. A friend brought it back to me after a trip to California. It should have no trouble in my climate, although it is far from Sequoia National Park.
My wife objected at first saying it will get too big... but we are both near 50, so in our lifetimes it will not. In about 1000 years though... they will see it from all over town!
You can order them online... they need to be planted in a place where they will get plenty of water from above. They need a lot of water and the one thing they will not tolerate is drought.
Better cut it down. I think its spewing that noxious gas called oxygen.
Do not most of us with yards have trees that grew over time? I don’t get it.
"Mumbe! Let's you and I take plane to England to look at a tree."
"We could use this money to buy food or medicine, or even some soft American toilet paper. But Okay."
Growing like a healthcare bill!!
and the Homeowners Association after seeing numerous vehicles drive by to see this wonderful symbol of a long lasting marriage will require the tree to be cut down due to vehicle traffic and and green house gas concerns.
Slow news day?
You always put up some cool pictures.
How about some cool pictures to put in this thread about a douglas fir tree growing?
Ha...my sentiments, too, when I read this. I have a picture of my house in California with a teeny palm tree and I've recently seen it years late and it's huge. It's probably the focal point of my old street, too. I'm not sure I get the story angle, either.
I see they got rid of the Charlie Brown tree that used to be next to it.
There is not much good news in England. So a fir growing in a yard makes international news.
“Soon the entire village was joining us every December to help us decorate it. It’s turned into quite a village tradition.”
This year a local building firm donated their cherry-picker to help decorate the top of the tree which is adorned with 899 fairy lights.
Mrs Rowlands added: “The support we have is fantastic. We have had people from Japan and America come and see the tree after hearing about it. .....”
We have done the same thing and can truly relate to that little tree standing tall and proud and now standing tall and proud into a grand Christmas tree. :) Really neat. Thank you for sharing with us.
Merry Christmas everyone!!!
Nice tree. Now cut it down before it falls on your house and kills someone.
Wow! Trees grow; who knew?
This spooks me. Now I may have a flood of visitors from all over the world to see my 50’ Cedar of Lebanon. I have only a mobile home lot, for Pete’s Sake.
Geeez...there is nothing to get. It’s just a nice story of how a small tree grew into something grand. I think it was nice to share this with all of us. If we all have something similar...we are free to post it too are we not??? I thought it was a neat story with photos.
Merry Christmas.
