THE TEN MANLIEST FIREARMS
Arthur's Hall of Viking Manliness ^ | N/A | Crazy Einar

Posted on 12/24/2009 6:56:55 PM PST by parsifal

This was a hard piece to write, because guns by definition are manly, except for Berettas, gold-plated TEC9s, .25 caliber pistols or anything made by the French. To simplify things, I have limited it to modern cartridge firearms a man might, can, and should collect and shoot. There are certainly other manly weapons, and you may have a different list. As long as the list contains nothing French, gold-plated, .25 or with pearl grips (which Patton correctly observed are the mark of a New Orleans pimp), it is a good list.

I’ve got 5 of them, and agree that the FN-FAL should be included, along with the Colt Python .357. Which would make 7 for me...

What’s wrong with that maniac! He hates fruits and vegetables! :-0 I like the RPG, little heavy for coyotes though.

I love lists like this. Good for endless arguing in fun and all.

Howsomever, I must take issue with the SMLE (aptly called "smelly.") It is one of the worst firearms ever designed. It's only claim to fame is cocking on the lock, instead of when it is being unlocked, which makes it somewhat faster. Everything else about it is a disaster.

I had the unfortunate job of refinishing two of them. My special hate is for the stock. It has about 57 screws holding the stock together. I swear that whoever designed it had family in some screw-making mill outside London, and he needed to keep 'em employed. I have never seen so many damn screws. Criminal I tell ya.

For me, the SMLE is a symbol of the decline of the British Empire, not an emblem of its glory.

Merry Christmas.

I’m impressed. I’m surprised I made it at all. That Glock and the 45 made me wish I had one of them. Almost had a 303 Enfield but it sold before I could answer the ad.

parsy, who got a new guitar for Christmas

There’s something so wrong about that picture. And, so right.

parsy, who isn’t sure which one he would rather find under his Charlie Brown Christmas Tree. ($9.99 at Walgreens)

It may not be illegal if all of the provisions of the 1934
Firearms Act have been met. Same as a machine gun, they aren’t illegal in all states, just need to meet the Federal requirements.

I love Enfields. Other than Wednesday trapshooting, my only other frequent shoots are weekend get-togethers with a few other old farts and we enjoy old military patterns. One of my favorites is a Long Branch(Canadian) No. 4 MK II. It likes me too.

I know this thread will go on forever because, although most agree with the author over which should never be on the list, we will all have our own ideas about the manliest guns that should be on the list. I agree with the AK47 (except it's crude and inaccurate; I trained the Iraqi's on the use of theirs - see my facebook page for proof..... http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/kerrbrandon?ref=profile )and I do like the GLOCK. However, the AR15 (and it's military counterparts, the M16 series and M4’s) are absolute garbage eventhough they look cool. This piece mention’s Dirty Harry's gun, which is cool. But, he lists the M82 .50BMG instead of the master itself, the Ma Deuce.....the gun insurgents fear most.....the M2 machine gun.

NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!

The last time I saw that sexy combination, it was an Israeli IDF babe in her bikini toting an M-16 on the beach at Haifa.

“Must remained armed at all times.” State of dress/undress was not specified.
