Once a year I like to find out how fellow freepers came to become members of FreeRepublic.com. Because of the curtain situation with Rush's health I thought we could all ruminate on how he has affected our lives.
I was always conservative, however I felt that I was in a tiny minority and kept my political views to myself. The main stream media had convinced me that I was in the minority. The day after Clinton was elected, I was in the car searching for news about the election and found Rush. I became hooked from that day forward.
Rush put into words my political philosophy. Rather than shaping it he helped me learn to express it and I soon realized that probably more people felt as I did about things than the Main stream media tried to convince otherwise.
Rush would talk about websites etc. and once mentioned Free Republic and I thought I would check it out. I lurked for awhile and became a member June of 1989.
I have found that fellow freepers agree on very little but the most important things we all agree - Constitution, freedom, liberty and support of military.
I have two pet peeves about Free Republic.
Religion- We need the strength of all denominations who call themselves Christians and all Jews uniting together to protect our right to worship how we want, where we want and who we want. It will take us all to fight radical islam and their Democratic protectors who are united together to destroy our freedom of Religion.
Romney- Another pet Peeve is the Anti-Rommey in every thread. Jim, we get it you do not like Romney and want to make sure he doesn't run for President. However shouldn't we be using that energy and political capital to fight the enemies that are currently in power?
Rush is the shadow reason we will regain the country.
God bless him against the Communists.
About the same way as when I first read Atlas Shrugged decades ago.
A revelation that my thoughts were shared by millions of other people.
Hearing Rush articulate those ideals for millions upon millions of folks who needed to hear the truth was empowering.
"The Truth Is Out There". Just don't count on getting it from the morons on TV.
Rush is my hero.
16 years ago, I listened for the first time, at the insistance of my husband.
It’s been true love ever since(with Rush!).
Rush is a national treasure.
Get Well Fast El Rushbo!
Since I don’t have a radio in the truck and won’t tollerate a radio on the job I haven’t heard him in probably 15 years.
1. Jim’s site, Jim’s rules. Go start your own site. It’s not that hard. At first. Then it gets to be a real PITA, LOL!
2. Rush keeps me on track in my personal fight against Big Government. I’d say he keeps me balanced because I’m even MORE to the right than he is. Godspeed, Rush!
3. I don’t trust Romney, either. We need to make sure he NEVER becomes our President.
I was one of Rush’s voices. How have I affected his life?
Don’t listen to him anymore but I will always be greatful for turning me on to conservative talk radio.
I have listened to Rush’s show since it started wayback in 1990 or so.I guess he has affected me a lot since that’s the only place where you tend to get the truth;or at least it was untill Hannity and Mark Levin went on the air.
Both of which are excellant programs in their own right.
Similarly to your final note: Limbaugh helped me keep my sanity during the Reign of Error of the Nameless One. Here was someone with a massive soapbox, often representing just my viewpoint, and usually doing it terribly well.
I started listening to Rush in 1990 and slowly realized how many things I had been unaware of.
Rush helped me to think for myself and opened my eyes to the dangers of Liberalism.
And I cannot thank him enough.
I might have changed my thinking on my own anyway at some point, but I still know people who just swallow the democrats' poison via the willing main stream media.
No offense against Rush, but he certainly isn't a role model.
I have found that people who don’t, or won’t, listen to Rush, or Laura, or Levin, are incredibly naive, or ignorant about what’s happening around them.
Blitely unaware, and vote accordingly.
It’s funny, was driving home one day, pissed off about the possibility of clinton getting elected, changed the car radio, and Rush was doing one of his parities on something.
First time I ever heard of him,my first thought was,you can’t say that on the radio.
Didn’t realize how indoctrinated I had become, been listening ever since.
(However...I am really disappointed in his ignoring Obama’s eligibility. )
I’ve always held conservative beliefs, but until a few years ago I couldn’t stand Rush. I still can’t abide the whole “dittohead” terminology, I’ve got a brain and don’t need Rush or anyone to tell me how to use it. However, I think he’s a great analyst and one of the most passionate and articulate conservative spokespersons, even though I know he mostly preaches to the choir. He’s a great entertainer and I now look forward to hearing his program, having learned to separate the bluster and humor from his real message.
The main thing I’ve learned from Rush is to get different perspectives before forming an opinion. No dittohead stuff here. But the other conservative commentators don’t come close to his intellect and analytical and communications ability.
Couldn't you have done that?
You and I discovered Rush on the same day, I wonder how many others Clinton drove out of the darkness.
