Biblical scholar's date for rapture: May 21, 2011 (Here We Go Again)
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | January 1, 2010 | Justin Berton

Harold Camping lets out a hearty chuckle when he considers the people who believe the world will end in 2012. "That date has not one stitch of biblical authority," Camping says from the Oakland office where he runs Family Radio, an evangelical station that reaches listeners around the world. "It's like a fairy tale."

The real date for the end of times, he says, is in 2011.

The Mayans and the recent Hollywood movie "2012" have put the apocalypse in the popular mind this year, but Camping has been at this business for a long time. And while Armageddon is pop science or big-screen entertainment to many, Camping has followers from the Bay Area to China.

Camping, 88, has scrutinized the Bible for almost 70 years and says he has developed a mathematical system to interpret prophecies hidden within the Good Book. One night a few years ago, Camping, a civil engineer by trade, crunched the numbers and was stunned at what he'd found: The world will end May 21, 2011.

Sorry, that won’t work for me I’m washing my hair that day. Have to postpone the rapture.

Old dude previously predicted September 1994, followers gathered and were disappointed.

Summary of old dude’s new theory.

He decided that 5 represents atonement, 10 represents completion, and 17 represents heaven.

5 x 10 x 17 x 5 x 10 x 17 = 722,500.

Then he uses that number to count from the supposed date of Jesus’ crucifixion, and comes up with May 21, 2011.

If those numbers hadn’t worked, I’m sure he would’ve come up with some different ones.

” . . . by the time the IRS comes looking for me we’ll all be safely in heaven. Right? Right?”

Well, there’s either good news or bad news. If the Rapture should come that day, and you are born again you’re in good shape. But if you’ve never acknowledged that Jesus is Lord, that God raised Him from the dead, confused His Lordship with your mouth, then you’ll be here after that Rapture, telling the IRS that you were only joking about the unpaid taxes and asking if you may set up a payment program. Because WHENEVER the Rapture comes, unless you know Christ as your Savior, you won’t be safely in heaven. Don’t blame me. That’s what the Bible says.

Can’t be much of a Biblical “scholar”, seeing as how he’s totally ignored this little passage from Matthew 24

27For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

28For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.

29Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

30And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

31And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

32Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:

33So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.

34Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

35Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

36But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

37But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

38For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,

39And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Wow. So that’s it, huh? Seems so anti-climatic, like the answer to life, the universe, and everything being 42.

A wrong premise will always lead to a faulty conclusion.

1729 is an interesting number. It can be written as the sum of the cube of 9 and 10.

What part of, “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come” (Matthew 24:42) do these people not understand?

Nobody knows the day nor the hour except the Father.

No, all you'll have to do is gut it out. Why work for the Feds when the end is near?

Lets see.Camping is 88. 88 is the number of keys on a piano. So after trying to figgure out this bible puzzle for over 70 years the best he can come up with is that date?
Well first problem I have with the 33 AD date is Jesus was not born in year zero because Herod the great died a few years before that. The calendar got screwed up along the line...so that means we are past the date that Camping predicts. Somebody ask him how come he was not raptured will you?I am booking a cruise in 2011 to celebrate!

I wonder if he used the same math as William Miller who predicted October 22, 1844 as the day Christ was to return to earth. Also known as the Great Disappointment.

Now why would you post a photo of Obama on a thread about religion?
