Here is video of Fox News' Brit Hume talking tonight about his comments yesterday in which he encouraged Tiger Woods to "turn to the Christian faith." Hume told Bill O'Reilly his intention was not to "prosyletize" Woods, but to simply say that he (Hume) believes that "“Jesus Christ offers Tiger Woods something Tiger Woods desperately needs." . . . What is interesting about scripture is that when Jesus addressed the topic of “lust”, he said that under God’s law, if you even looked at another woman lustfully, you already commit fornication with her in your heart. So, thought crimes = real crimes in Christianity.

Guess I’m guilty as charged. And I’m perfectly fine with that :)

(then again..looking ain’t touching!)

Hume was very articulate about this tonight, offering more depth than yesterday. I respect his beliefs, and I even think he is correct generally speaking. But his province to talk about this on a religious/spiritual level on a national newstalk show is questionable. Hume is a Washington newsman and Woods is a golfer—not Bill Clinton or any other elected official.

This whole thing with Tiger Woods has gone too far in the media now. He’s a golfer. His personal life is not our business.

To the scum on the left (and I have to work closely with many of them unfortunately) the most evil thing you can do is not kill innocent people but to promote Christ.

Hume’s comments were tame compared to Judge Napolitano’s the other day when filling in for Glenn Beck. This is incredibly refreshing, not to mention watching the lobs squirm.

Well put.

Brit’s son committed suicide in 1998. (I remember the day Tony Snow told viewers on FOX News Sunday. He did it with the eloquence we all miss so very much.)

Anyway, I look at what Brit said this past Sunday though the prism of what he has experienced as a father.

Hume is a Washington newsman

Hume WAS a Washington correspondent. He is now a COMMENTATOR. And he was indeed commenting on the situation.

I remember that day too--and how many of us here on FreeRepublic (which had just started up around that time) wanted Mr. Hume to know he, and his family, were in our prayers. I also remember reading something here on FR, not too long ago, that said it was after Sandy's suicide that Brit became a Christian.

Like George Bush, Brit Hume understands that being a Christian is more than just having an ideology; it involves a personal relationship with a heavenly Father whose own Son came into our world to perform a divine mission to "preach good news to the poor", "to bind up the broken-hearted", and to "proclaim freedom to the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners". (from Isaiah 61:1)

Christ accomplished this mission by obeying the will of His Father--even unto death on a cross--so that though our "sins be as scarlet they shall be white as snow".

When one experiences the power of this Amazing Grace, as Brit Hume no doubt has, it is difficult to keep silent about about it, no matter how "politically incorrect" it might seem, because it brings such Comfort to a sorrowing heart, especially one that--perhaps like that of Tiger Woods--is suffering not so much from having received a deep wound, as having inflicted it.

May God bless Brit Hume for having the courage to "confess Christ before men". And may God help Tiger Woods to have the courage to confess his need, not for more money, more trophies, more women, more earthly treasure, but for the heavenly treasure of God's grace and mercy, offered freely through faith in His beloved Son, Jesus Christ.

Well, believe and then follow. Just believing and then living his same old life won’t do squat.

I agree this was quite refreshing to hear from an individual acquainted first hand with what this means...and I suspect we’re going to hear more Christians in the limelight speak candidly as the obvious destruction of our nation and moral compass continues.

When things go well monetarily and relatively smooth in our nation many do not feel the need to speak up....but we are not there anymore. Everyone feels the foundation of our country shaking now...and they need to hear what Brit Hume stated, how be it thru Tiger’s fall...there are those who heard who may indeed heed.

With all of Tigers fame and fortune he is still looking for love in all the wrong places. I think if he sought and found the love of Jesus he would fill that hole he seems to be trying to fill.

Now that I have said that, I agree with you. Tigers personal life is none of our business.

Hume WAS a Washington correspondent. He is now a COMMENTATOR. And he was indeed commenting on the situation.

Yes. I accept this. But Hume is only on TV commenting BECAUSE he has a long background in news. Then, all of a sudden, he is applying religious advice to a golfer—??

Maybe Hume has some license in this area because of what happened with his son...but that’s still NOT why he is on TV.

And even if I happen to agree with his advice to Woods generally, Woods specifically should be out of bounds for these shows at this point. There is no public interest issue in any of this. It’s just salacious gossip-mongering of the worst sort.

As far as someone having license to advise someone else because of similar experiences and such, John Daly would have more license to advise Tiger Woods than Brit Hume or almost anyone else. After all, Daly was a prominent golfer who cheated on his wife. (But would anyone imagine Daly could give good advice?)

Anyway, I don’t mean to be hitting anyone over the head in this discussion. I respect everyone’s opinion here at FR and Brit Hume’s too for that matter. I just think he addressed a subject that is WAY off his beat—a subject that had no business being discussed on FNS or even on The Factor at this point.

All that said, I do agree that Hume did a nice job of making his point. But he usually does. And I too hope Tiger can find redemption and save his family life.
