2010 Census
MsLady | Jan. 16, 2010 | MsLady

We haven't received our census questionnaire yet. But, my poor mother did. She lives in another state. She old and become rather frail and it takes her time to do things. When I spoke to her today, she said she spent all day filling it out. I told her, I know for a fact that all of those questions are illegal for them to ask except how many individuals live in your house. Is there any other questions that we are suppose to answer but, that one?

The USC is explicit on their being a census but silent on its content.

My advice is to just lie — it is more satisfying.

Naw, I’m not lying about anything, I just want to make sure that legally the only question we have to answer is, how many people are living in your home. There maybe one other question you have to answer about age, I just can’t remember, but, I know all the other questions are unconstitutional. You don’t have to answer them.

There is only 10 questions on the form this year. Check a few boxes basically and that’s it. Click the following to see them.

I had this experience last time. I answered the long form with only the number of people in my household. I was pestered for a while, but nothing I couldn’t ignore. Then they gave up.

Are you sure this is the Census form? I don’t think it has been mailed as of yet.... check on that if you can.

http://2010.census.gov/2010census/how/about-the-form.php

In areas served by the United States Postal Service, postal workers will deliver the initial mailing in mid-March 2010. In all other areas, census takers will deliver the form packages between March 1 and April 30, 2010.

My mother must have gotten some long form. She said they wanted to know her income, how much her utilities were...and on and on. I think how much taxes she pays. I can’t remember them all but, sounds like there was a bunch.

That’s what I thought I remembered doing last time. Just answered the number of people living in the home. But, it’s been 10 years, so I wasn’t sure. I believe the rest of the questions are illegal for them to ask.

Maybe we should all say we’re considering converting to “Amish”, since they won’t be required to buy health insurance.

**My advice is to just lie — it is more satisfying.**

The “FIne” for LYING on a Census Form is BIGGER than refusing to answer.

I will announce how many live in my house... the rest I’ll tell THEM to fill it out... YOU ACORN B******* are going to do that ANY WAY .. so why should I WASTE MY TIME.

Over the past years, I’ve had great fun arguing with the census workers when they come to find out why I didn’t fill all the questions out.

Most of the poor saps are only people who are looking for an easy, temporary job. But occasionally, you get a true believer. They’re a hoot.

I like reading old census reports, especially about my parents and other family members. It gives a good picture of what was going on then. It was 1850 before the U.S. censuses started listing the names of all the family members, and that’s much more interesting than the previous censuses. I wish past censuses had given much more information than they did. What’s the harm? Future generations will be interested.

If you get a chance, audio record it. Sounds like it would be a blast.

That sounds like the American Community Survey. The Census Bureau took so much flak at giving the long form to 1/6 of the households in 2000, they decided to sneak it through a few hundred thousand households per month. If you don't answer it they'll send you a second one and a letter. Then the second month they will call you. Then during the third month a fraction of those who haven't turned it in will get personal visits. Then after that they go away.
