An Italian TV chef has been suspended after he horrified animal lovers and station chiefs by praising the delights of cat meat during a show.

Beppe Bigazzi, enraged animal rights experts around the country when he gave advice on preparing 'tender, white cat meat' in a section of the show usually reserved for advice about nutrition.

Mr Bigazzi is co-presenter on Italy's version of Ready Steady Cook - called La Prova del Cuoco (The Cooks' Challenge).

Doesn’t sound that bad at all.

Serve the cat with a nice red sauce and parmesan and a side of spaghetti.

Cats were considered a delicacy in Barcelona (and many other places) until the early part of the 20th century. Gats rostits, or roast cats, were prepared in special restaurants. The cats were the feral cats that lived along the waterfront and around the wharves, and small boys used to make money by capturing them and selling them to the restaurants.

Cats are lucky most people find them cuter than pigs or cows.

I wouldn’t serve cat with red sauce...maybe a white sauce, or as scampi.

when we lived in Africa, they made kebabs out of cats.
You could pick your dead, skinned cat at the marche. They left the tails on, and orange cats cost the most.

I’ve eaten cat, though not intentionally. A Chinese friend and I had ordered a meal in a local Chinese restaurant in some Third World sink trap many years ago. As we sat there quietly eating, I tried to determine what was in our dish. It tasted vaguely like chicken dark meat, but the consistency was a definately unusal, and the aroma, and after taste...as my eyes widened with sudden realization my Chinese friend looked up at me, raised both his hands in cat claw fashion and said “Meow!” That’s when we both swept our plates aside and called for the “CHEQUE!”

Cats and dogs should not be elevated to a higher “protected” status than other animals, if they are equally delicious. Hey, I am just saying...

I think I'll pass on the cat, monkey, rat, horse and dog dishes but I did have to laugh at the overreaction by his network and other outraged critics. Since when is a cat NOT an animal?

I certainly don't want to see anyone's pet end up missing and on someone else's dinner plate but come on! They aren't really above humans. lol

I would never eat a cat, but on the other hand there is nothing wrong with other people eating them, IMO. I love cats, but animals are animals and every animal on the face of the earth has been used for food at one time or another, including our beloved dogs, horses and cats. As long as the guy doesn't go around killing people's pets and raises his own cats I see no problem with this.

I am sure I will hear from cat lovers about this but so what? I have two cats and would never eat either one of them, or any cat for that matter but I will not condemn anyone else for eating them. Besides, this guy was most likely pulling their chain and people are just to stupid to realize it.
