American Fork » Sen. Orrin Hatch has a message for the Tea Party movement: Work with the GOP or see conservatives lose more ground. "If we fractionalize the Republican Party, we are going to see more liberals elected," Hatch warned a crowd of 300 at a town meeting at American Fork Junior High School on Wednesday night, amid jeers from Tea Party supporters. Hatch blamed extreme conservatives for the 2008 defeat of Sen. Gordon Smith, a politically moderate but fiscally conservative Republican from Oregon. Hatch said if the Tea Party had not backed a constitutionalist candidate in that race, Smith wouldn't have lost to Democrat Jeff Merkley, whom Hatch described as "the most Photo Gallery Sen. Orrin Hatch town hall meeting liberal senator," by 45,000 votes. But Hatch's critics said he was not interested in listening to them. "I think you guys are as out of touch as you can get," said Sarah Beeson, of American Fork. Hatch, she said, appeared more interested in raising money for candidates than listening to what the people had to say.
Does Orrin know something we don't!
Translation: The GOP is happy to ride on a wave of energy created by the tea parties, and will work with the Tea Partiers, as long as they know their place
Bull. I blame the GOP for the incompetence which led to the liberals gaining control. I credit the tea party mentality for holding the line and shifting the momentum toward greater conservatism. I say that the GOP needs to adapt, not vice versa.
The Traditional GOP was for small businesses, small government, lower taxes and adhered to the US Constitution as written by our founding fathers...exactly what the Tea Party’s mission statement says.
The GOP went left while most of it’s supporters remained right of center.
It’s time Orin Hatch and other GOP leaders have a ‘come to Jesus’ moment.
This is the ‘old guard’ trying to retain power now that us Tea Partiers are showing up at Republican events. Don’t worry Orrin, the grown ups are going to be taking the reins.
LOL! WELL, IF THE PROGRESSIVE RNC WOULD JUST WAKE UP AND SMELL THE ROSES, THEY COULD AVERT THE THREATENED DISASTER.
That’s right, Orrin, keep talking. Chris Cannon didn’t think he needed to listen to the conservatives either. Look where that got him. We’re going to take care of Bennett this year, and you’re next.
“Hatch said it was a fair question, but it is one that has been put to rest. Obama, he said, was born to a U.S. mother in Hawaii.”
I wonder what H’s screen name is here. On. Free. Republic.
Orin, your egg has hatched, now shut the hell up or get the hell out, “We the People” can rescue this nation. All you full time politicians are the reason we’re in such a mess.
Better Headline
Tea Party movement threatening to impair (some) politicians of the opulent life style they have enjoyed at the expense of the public.
No time for all this to work itself out.
GOP needs a good tearing apart...
Hatch you dumbell it’s third parties that lose, not grassroots folk! What are you, royalty?
