I bet the list is very similar to those who were involved in Chicago's olympic bid!

these lakes have cleaned up consideraby since the 60s when if you could find a fish in the lakes, you were crazy to eat it.

of course now we need to squash our moon program for this and other bogus socialist spending.

(I do not consider NASA for the most part socialist spending....it is a message to those nations that would do us harm that they would be messing with a potent foe...it is national security and national pride.)

it sets a goal to collect or prevent the release of 45 million pounds of electronic waste

Backdoor carbon regulation. Cap and trade regulation without legislation, to "protect" the environment.

These people must be stopped.

If anyone was bought off, I’d say it was the animal rights whack jobs who don’t seem to be raising a fuss over the eradication of an invasive Asian carp.

Lake Erie came back to life in the 1970’s.

The dollar figure seems way too low for the scale of the lakes. Maybe its just the opening bid.

OK, first of all it's only an effort ... kind'a like gettin' an A for tryin'

Secondly, 2.2B is nowhere near sufficient just to clean up beaches, let alone wetlands, a war on invasive species, clean up polluted water ....

I mean, this is the health care bill ... it ain't got nuthin' t'do with the environment ... it's payoff, plain and simple

You know it and I know it.

I have been painted a picture of the great lakes, that I don’t believe exists, but it has been painted never the less.

There are large bureaucratic dollar signs all over the picture of disease, death, destruction, and disaster, that has been painted of the great lakes.

The states of MN, WI, IL, IN, NY, PA, MI, and OH, stand to benefit from the federal largess. How much will O’Canada benefit by being the other fifty percent of the lake shore. Suppose she is going to pony up? How much of the sky is falling, is she buying into.

And check out the last sentence in the article. Is the person who said it making the suggestion that even after spending 2 billion dollars, the situation might not even improve?!

Whoa. I smell a 'Rat. A honkin' big one.

Now I really wanna know who's getting that money.

But how can this be? We passed the clean water act years ago!!!! It must be that water is too easy to buy. We need a 10 day waiting period and strict laws preventing yuts from owning water. Inner city water violence is out of control and needs to be stopped. No water from the South should enter Chicago without the proper fess and backround checks.

Of course, Milwaukee's MMSD which cost billions and dumps millions of gallons of raw sewage into Lake Michigan - every time it rains heavy or a big snow run off - won't see a dime...

Yes, Lake Erie was cleaned up very dramatically. However the method used by introducing zebra mussles created whole other problem in itself.

The Great lakes Restoration will be enabled by the Clean Water Restoration Act 2009 (S. 787)

http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-s787/show

This bill will place ALL waters in the US under control of the EPA. That means every trickle, stream (including intermittent ones), pond, lake, drainage ditch, bog, cow hoof print that collects water.......AND significant amounts of the lands that abut any of the above (buffer zones).

The EPA is totally out of control!
