'Snow Hurricane' Hits East Coast with Blizzard, Rain, High Winds
ABC News ^ | February 25, 2010

Posted on 02/25/2010 7:52:41 PM PST by campaignPete R-CT

No! Please! Enough already! This winter stinks. We need a break! The massive storm brings a triple threat of rain, snow and wind.

The eastern United States, already having a rough winter after a string of mild ones, has been warned to be ready for another storm -- and just where it will have the most effect is proving maddeningly difficult for forecasters to predict.

A low-pressure system is slowly heading up the East Coast, mixing with another from the west. It is right on a boundary line for meteorologists. On one side is moist but relatively mild air from the Atlantic. On the other is colder air from the northwest.

The boundary line naturally wanders. A shift of just a few miles could determine whether you get flooding rains -- or a foot or more of snow. ...

John Koch, a forecaster at the National Weather Service in Bohemia, N.Y ... "This is not in the official forecast, but I could see a scenario where people just west of New York get a foot and a half of snow, and Greenwich, Conn. -- just five to seven miles away -- could get an inch. It's that close."

For inland areas, heavy snow was all but guaranteed. The forecast for Philadelphia, as of Thursday morning, was for 8-12 inches of snow through Friday. AccuWeather, the private forecasting service, posted a map with the words "paralyzing blizzard" over most of New York state, northern Pennsylvania and northern New England.

"It's going to be a high-impact event that affects the entire Northeast region," said Koch. "Even areas that don't receive a lot of snow are going to receive one to two inches of rain.

"The slightest change in track will have drastic consequences on the forecast," said a weather service statement.

Right now two straight days of cold rain and 'schlop' here on LI, but is now turning to cold-wet-snow, the big puffy flake type .. with lots of wind ...

Went outside earlier to take the garbage out and the driveway is slicked with ice .. nasty stuff ..

By the way - where in heck is Algore during all this? Not a haid nor hair of the twirp has been spotted this winter

Proof, specific and conclusive of global warming....let’s have the climate conference on the warmest climatological day of the year and turn the AC off....let’s make longterm glacial melting claims in northern India based on a single phone call from some commie guru, let’s put all our new temperature sensors as close to large paved areas as we can and while were at it our co2 sensors downwind of conventional power plants...let’s say warming causes cooling, more hurricanes , less hurricanes, more snow , less snow... let’s tell everyone they are going to have to lower their standard of living while we fly around in private jets with 500 times the carbon footprint of the average American...and finally boys let’s do this with a straight face.....my head is going to frekin explode!

Interesting radar image of storm shows what resembles an ‘eye’ coming onshore in Massachusetts; north of Boston near Lowell. Rain has let up, but winds are really howling...near 60 MPH in gusts. Power blinking...has gone out in many areas.

We’ve had about 12” of heavy wet snow today in the western mountains of New Hampshire. Winds are gusting to 50+, and the power is out. We’ve got about 2.5 feet of snow on the ground.

Some are giving reports without mentioning their state .... and remember LIBERALS lurk on this sight and they don’t know that Pocatello is really in Idaho.

Is there really such a place as Idaho?

Gore is just another example of someone educated WAY beyond his intelligence.

He couldn’t find his rearend with both hands, a flashlight and a roadmap.

And to think he was the vice president.

WOW.

I’m enjoying the plight of some of the TV weatherpeople in Philadelphia today - after predicting some really amazing potentials for the storm yesterday - like that it was going to make a double loop around Philly before dying out and to drop about eighteen inches of snow on the city, they had to explain why they were lowering their predictions to only about ten inches today when there was hardly any snow sticking - they came up with the explanation that yesterday’s predictions were for total snowfall, but today they were giving the “shovelable” totals, the amounts which would actually have to be removed - sounds like the kind of lame rationalizations ‘rats usually come up with.....
