Miss. school prom off after lesbian's date request

JACKSON, Miss. – A northern Mississippi school district decided Wednesday not to host a high school prom after a lesbian student demanded she be able to attend with her girlfriend and wear a tuxedo.

The Itawamba County school district's policy requires that senior prom dates be of the opposite sex. The American Civil Liberties Union of Mississippi had given the district until Wednesday to change that policy and allow 18-year-old Constance McMillen to escort her girlfriend, who is also a student, to the dance on April 2.

Instead, the school board met and issued a statement announcing it wouldn't host the event at Itawamba County Agricultural High School in Fulton, "due to the distractions to the educational process caused by recent events."

You know when I was in high school way back in the good ole days, we had a Jr-Sr Banquet. The junior class raised money to pay for the seniors to go to it. Then it was the seniors turn to shine for one last time. Of course, we never had very expensive tastes way back then. I still have my evening dress from the early 1960’s. It is a beautiful dress which was worn by myself, 2 cousins, and a niece. It was on so expensive back then and cost a whole $35. We did not have to have dates. It was just a way to say farewell to our high school years. We all had a blast talking to each other and the teachers who came.

Nowadays, kids have to have formals costing hundreds of dollars, fancy meals before and after, and of course the fancy cars to get them there. I think we had a much better time than these kids today. Each tries to outdo the other girl and frankly, it has gotten rediculous.

Mr. Clower was one of the very nicest people I have ever met. Of course it helped that he went to my college, MSU. He did a benefit for the band to raise money to go to Austria and Germany many years ago. I found some pictures of him the other day in his trademark red suit.

They knew the guidelines months before this. They knew exactly what they were doing and did not care one little bit as long as she got her mug in the paper. Besides that, the other girl was only a sophomore. That in itself is a no-no here.

They have a black student and in one photo he is touching a white girl. Once I saw this photo I knew a lesbian couple was certainly the next step towards decadence.

I can't tell you how that frosted my soft parts! They have absolutely no regard whatsoever for the truth. Sometimes it's because they really don't know the truth, but often it's simply because they don't care.

Their constant drum beat about Bush lying is a perfect example of how clueless they are when it comes to the truth. If I tell you something and you have reason to believe me and then you tell it to someone else it's not a lie. It's an error. Every intel operation in the world believed Saddam had WMD. Hell, I'm convinced even Saddam believed he did. I'm convinced he had people high in his regime taking all kinds of money and privileged treatment from him who were telling him, “Oh yes, we've had great success! We're right on track.” And all the time they knew damn good and well they didn't have the capability they were claiming and no idea how to get it. If he had known just how unprepared his defense forces were for an invasion I'm convinced he would have handled the whole UN thing differently. It's tough when your adversary has no respect for the truth and the MSM is intent on backing them up regardless of the cost to the country.

We need to make sure we keep handy a collection of all the outlandish things the libs were saying at the end of 2008 about the war being lost, our troops being murderers, etc. And come election time we need to make that a major thrust of the campaign to take back our country. They're like the crazy ex-daughter-in-law that uses her mouth the weapon of first choice and spouts anything she thinks will harm you and back her cause, regardless of the truth or reality.

We are going to have take out all the stops between now and Nov. and take advantage of every opportunity to show just how untrustworthy and totally clueless the libs are when it comes to the good of our nation. No more Mr. Nice Guy, afraid to tell the truth for fear of offending someone or hurting someone’s feelings. Lord knows we have the ammunition to show them up for exactly what they are.

I agree with you. I think something more related to reality would be more enjoyable for the students and less likely to turn out badly. The expectations for proms and the typical behavior are completely out of line with what schools should be involved with.

Some of them, surely. But I have always thought that the PC crowd is nowhere near as monolithic as it seems, simply because those who do not agree with the dogma remain silent while those who do scream so loudly they just appear to be speaking for the majority.

And this is the South. Nope, I do not believe those “ladies” are going to be very popular among the majority of their classmates.

It sounds like the girls weren’t told they couldn’t attend the prom. One girl asked if she could wear a tuxedo and escort the other girl as a date. The school said no.

So, this nonsense is all about dress code. It’s not even about “same-sex” dating. Who would’ve stopped the two girls from entering the prom if they’d both shown up in gowns? Plenty of girls attend their prom with friends when they don’t have dates.

But, this girl decided to make it into a public issue and to get the ACLU involved. The school board was right to cancel the prom because, once the story hit the news, the prom probably would’ve attracted news reporters, supporters, protesters.

Excellent post. The difference between the Bush Admin and the present slimebags could not be more apparent. Bush made many mistakes, but he loves this country.

I don’t see how a free society like ours is supposed to be can get back on track without a commitment by most American people to the importance of truth. With the erosion of religion and the nonstop fantasy world of entertainment and video, it’s going to be a hard road, even if we get a decent president again.
