The American Minute: James Madison - Federalist Papers - President - Founder
The American Minute ^ | March 16, 2010 | William J Federer

American Minute for March 16th:

Called the "Chief Architect of the Constitution," he wrote many of the Federalist Papers which helped convince States to ratify the Constitution.

He introduced the First Amendment in the first session of Congress.

This was James Madison, born MARCH 16, 1751.

During the War of 1812, Madison proclaimed two National Days of Prayer, 1812 and 1813.

When the British marched on Washington, D.C., citizens evacuated, along with President and Dolly Madison.

On August 25, 1814, as the British burned the White House, Capitol and public buildings, dark clouds began to roll in. A tornado sent debris flying, blew off roofs and knocked chimneys over on top of British troops. Two cannons were lifted off the ground and dropped yards away. A British historian wrote: "More British soldiers were killed by this stroke of nature than from all the firearms the American troops had mustered."

British forces fled in confusion and rains extinguished the fires.

Madison then proclaimed a National Day of Public Humiliation, Fasting & Prayer to Almighty God on November 16, 1814.

Two weeks after the War ended, Madison proclaimed a National Day of Thanksgiving & Devout Acknowledgment to Almighty God, March 4, 1815.

How about that! Wow.

Maybe you could ping whatever “ping list” you have to come on over and read this too.

Glad it was a meaningful “ping” for you!

It is an awesome event in our history.

God is merciful and really does not want anyone to be destroyed if it can possibly be avoided.

I remember the times in the Revolution where God intervened - such as the mysterious fog that came up when Washington was trying to escape from the British in New York City after his troops were primed and ready to be destroyed by the Brits and basically the Revolution ended right there.

for some reason the Brits held off on their final assault on Washington and his troops, giving him that night during which he and his troops could escape with that miraculous use of all the boats and the men to pilot the boats (like at Dunkirk). Washington got all his men, animals, canon on board those ships without the British hearing them - and then this “mysterious” fog came up that hid their movements across the river so the British could not see them and cut them down from the river banks!

The fog lasted just long enough for the Great Escape to be accomplished!

That was GOD’s certain miraculous intervention during the Revolution just as this later miracle in the War of 1812 - this storm - was God’s miraculous intervention again.

God can and does use ANYTHING He needs to use in order to accomplish His purposes - and in order to respond to the humble prayers of those who call upon His Name! Hallelujah!

Though most know it:

[A Yankee officer was in a disastrous battle in the French and Indian War]

There were 86 British and American officers involved in that battle; at the end of the battle, [he] was the only officer who had not been shot down off his horse — he was the only officer left on horseback.

The next day, [he] wrote a letter to his family explaining that after the battle was over, he had taken off his jacket and had found four bullet holes through it, yet not a single bullet had touched him; several horses had been shot from under him, but he had not been harmed. He told them:

“By the all powerful dispensations of Providence, I have been protected beyond all human probability or expectation.”

[George Washington]

Fifteen Years Later:

An old Indian chief from far away, having heard that Washington had come back to those woods, traveled a long way just to meet with him.

He sat down with Washington, and face-to-face over a council fire, the chief told Washington that he had been a leader in that battle fifteen years earlier, and that he had instructed his braves to single out all the officers and shoot them down. Washington had been singled out, and the chief explained that he personally had shot at Washington seventeen different times, but without effect. Believing Washington to be under the care of the Great Spirit, the chief instructed his braves to cease firing at him.

It might take more than a couple of tornadoes to topple you-know-who.

Thank you for posting this terrific story!

Come and Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem, For Israel, and For The Jewish People.

If you would like to be on my Ping List for this Daily Thread, Please FReepmail me, and I will add you!

Christians reenact The Passover every time they partake of Communion or the Lord’s Supper.
African-Americans found themselves in the Story and immortalized it in their music of Spirituals and Blues.
Even the Modern State of Israel is a reenactment of the Story.
Books have been written, movies made, scholars have debated, wars have been fought,
and naysayers have denounced till they are blue in the face.

And yet, every year, Jews around the world gather, and celebrate the Passover.

And now, it seems, we have a Poser in office who thinks he is PHARAOH!

There was a program on the War of 1812 called First Invasion that the History Channel did a while back, and I remember they did a whole spot on the burning of Washington and the feeble American response, and then this freak storm occurred. There was actually a tornado which touched down in D.C., and wiped the British away and extinguished the fires. I clearly remember the historian being interviewed saying “we now know a tornado actually touches down, like the wrathful hand of God from the Old Testament...”

Thank you for the ping to this inspirational thread. The Founders are more alive to me than ever. I never tire of hearing the story of how the weather was on the side of General Washington and the Continentals, as well as how bullets and cannonballs could be flying all around him and not hit him.

I believe Washington also called for a day of prayer and fasting at a certain point during the American Revolution.

Yes - thank you for that incident’s retelling also!

If not mistaken, I thought I remembered that this same Indian Chief told that they saw all these “beings of light” during that attack - Angels? - who were fighting alongside Washington and his troops that day....protecting him specifically from being killed.

I’ll have to go back and look that up but I thought I remembered that from one of the history books I have read.

Yes, George Washington was miraculously preserved many times during his life - we know because God had a definitive purpose for him and would not allow anything to destroy him or take his life before he had accomplished that purpose!

(Which reminds us in fact that God has a purpose for each of our lives and is there beside us, around us, protecting and delivering us as we fulfill His purpose for our lives as well!)

You are very welcome for the ping!

Yes, I believe Washington did do that!

And, yes, I never tire of reading of the lives of our founders and of all the ways God intervened in the forming of our nation, especially in the Revolutionary War events, and even more especially, in the life of George Washington!

Let’s hope and pray that with this remarkable change of events over in the Texas schoolbook commission in which the decision about the teaching of ALL of American history was made - and will include the role of God in our founding, for instance - that more and more American public school children will finally be taught these remarkable stories officially in their schools.

I remember when I learned about George Washington and God’s role in our founding events feeling so cheated because I had gone through public school in the 50’s and 60’s and NEVER WAS TAUGHT these things! I had to wait til in my 20’s when I started reading the “REAL” history of our nation on my own.

Great books are “The Light and the Glory” and “From Sea to Shining Sea” and many biographies of Washington, esp the one by Flexner and the one called “The Indispensable Man”.

OH really? Wow. Good to know this incident was shown on that History Channel program AND that it acknowledged the mysterious and mighty “Hand of God” at work in bringing that tornado through at just the right moment to topple the British soldiers AND to put out the fires they had started in order to try to burn Washington DC down!

Awesome.

Two bitter rivals, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, fought over how this nation would be led. Adams and his Federalist Party lashed out at printing presses through thugs and the Sedition Act. Jefferson used the Sedition Act to destroy the Federalist Party. [I should bring some of that history here.]

On the Fourth of July — the Independence Day of 1826 — last words of John Adams: “Thomas Jefferson survives.”

On that same day, within hours, Thomas Jefferson also passed away.

Coincidence?

“It might take more than a couple of tornadoes to topple you-know-who.”

LOL - well - it appears the “story” that may topple you know who has now begun to unfold, doesn’t it? In the “stonewalling” that has been going on we are seeing a redux of the Nixon White House events during that administration’s waterloo...regarding the promise of White House or administration jobs in exchange for not running in a primary against Specter, aren’t we?

This modern day “Pharoah” is going to meet his waterloo soon.

Glad you enjoyed this American Minute. Will be posting today’s version soon. Then will be out of town Friday and will not post another one til Saturday night.

Urg —
Jefferson used the Sedition Act as AN ISSUE to destroy the Federalist Party.

Also, “Adams always proclaimed that, though Jefferson was 7 years younger than himself: “I will out live Jefferson.”

Oh - yes - please do bring some of that history here! So interesting!

Yes I knew that Jefferson and John Adams died on the same exact fourth of July! Well, yes, one of those “God” coincidences, I think...

Thanks for reminding me of that.

Our Constitution is a divine gift. It is our duty to keep it, and that means we need to dismantle the way the Constitution is redefined by leftist professors.

Yes it is!!! Absolutely right!

May God give us the strength to replace the leftist professors who have attempted to destroy this truth! I believe we will succeed in doing this!
