Next Month you can buy a Texas Town.
He's tried.
For two years, Moody Anderson has attempted to sell the Texas "ghost town," The Groves. Even had it up on eBay. There were no takers. Fickle bunch, those eBay folks.
The Groves is a made up of five buildings, each containing hundreds of collector's items. We'll let Texas Escapes give a proper description:
"This is a very well preserved 1860’s museum town full of authentic, articles and artifacts from that era. There is also written documentation of The Grove’s birth to its desertion in the 40’s when TxDOT re-routed HWY 36 around the town by .02 of a mile - diverting the much needed traffic. In addition, 250,000 acres was acquired by the government for building Ft. Hood and later 50,000 acres were impounded to form Belton Lake. Then WWII took all the young men away to fight for God and Country. Not much was left after that.
The town well that was dug in the mid 1860's is still wet and has never been dry. Bands play every weekend depending on the weather and there are still residents that live here, though only a handful.
[Anderson] bought The Grove, Texas downtown, historical, business district in 1972 and has collected more historic artifacts than you can imagine (including a 40,000 year old mammoth tusk and tooth). Everything with the exception of about ten heirloom items convey with the sale."

If I buy it can I exempt the town from impending socialism?
You need to buy the town first, and then pay for its maintenance forever, given its museum status. But no income. Looks like a hole in the ground that you throw money into.

I thought about them but since this is an auction I doubt they’d be able to pick stuff at a price to their suiting.

That's the fancy way to word living in utter squalor. There used to be a website that listed all the towns along the border where absolutely no English is spoken. It's somewhat of a US-gaza strip - who knows who lurks there with drug cartel members and gangbangers likely assured a place to hang out with assurance its not likely they'll be disturbed there.
Yep, there’s not much there. I’ve been there a couple of times just to see what it was.
