In many jurisdictions that sign would be a problem. Typically the sign would have to include the name of the towing service, and there may be a whole bunch of other state and local regulations governing who may be towed and when.
The whole thing sound fishy.
Five signs in a fair sized lot — would not be enough, the rule around here is roughly one sign per three spaces.
I think that this guy got the zot for nothing.
He wasn’t saying that he was offended, but just offering his opinion, which appears to be accurate.
You may have noticed that he is always on the side of the idiots; not just on this thread.
I'm not an attorney, but in cases such as this, I will always side with the property owner since I believer in Property Rights.
Moreover, I am not a believer in the nanny state courts stepping in to protect those who would fail to read no parking signs and trespass on private property.
And if cars had been towed from this same lot while their owners were attending an Obama rally, I would have the very same view on this matter. I doubt many others here would.

UCF campus, the Kappa Sigma fraternity has been suspended for hazing at a fraternity party pillow fight and for writing on a member with markers while he slept.
Students having fun on campus Friday night said they’re fed up by what appears to be UCF’s double-discipline standard.
UCF representatives said they had video proof of the hazing at Kappa Sigma, but not in Douarin’s death.

October 3,2008
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Two University of Central Florida fraternities are accused of hazing, one for hitting a member with a pillow and the other accused of punching a pledge in the chest. That pledge mysteriously died from heart trouble hours later.
The university punished the first frat for the pillow fight, but refuses to fully investigate the pledge’s death. Both complaints came in anonymously.
The first was an e-mail tip accusing UCF’s Kappa Sigma fraternity of drawing on a sleeping frat member with markers and hitting him with a pillow. The second was a Crimeline call to UCF police blaming hazing for the death of student Mcandy Douarin at the hands of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.
Against the victim’s requests, UCF’s Office of Student Conduct investigated the pillow fight and suspended that frat. But in the other case, despite the family’s requests, UCF refuses to investigate the death.

This appears to be a situation where people were deliberately deceived, so their cars would be towed. They should seek justice and compensation through the courts from those who deceived them. Property rights aren’t, and shouldn’t, be an issue.
If the property owner had the cars towed, but wasn’t involved in posting the signs, then he/she’s not at fault and of course shouldn’t pay. The persons who posted or assisted in the posting of signs are at fault.
Looks to me like Jim could sue them for defamation for some of the remarks at that link accusing him of being a pedophile. That is way over the line. I pinged him on this to let him know.
I agree.
What it appears to be and what one can prove it to be may be two different things. However, we do know that the parking lot had “No Parking” signs posted and that those who parked there ignored those signs.
I’ll call the other party when the suit is filed and offer your service.
My view is consistent in that I will side with the owner of the private property and I don’t care if it is Glenn Beck fans or Obama Clones who are illegally parking in the private parking lot which was clearly marked with “No Parking” signs.
The issue was whether there were signs directing them to park there for free and whether the signs were later removed as part of a “prank”.
Question: Was the Fraternity given a kick-back for the towing fees?
Question: It is just my hunch, but those Frat Boys looked guilty as sin.
Please contact Glenn Beck; ask him to underwrite the legal investigation of this problem. Ask that his listeners contribute to a fund. Someone needs to be confronted with a lawsuit and judgment.
