The dad who stabbed his dog to death after it savaged his two-year-old daughter said yesterday it was like a scene from a horror film.
Gereth Sim, 31, is haunted by the moment the French bullmastiff, named Trigger, sank its teeth into little Taylor's face.
He said: "I had turned away for two seconds and heard a growl. The next thing the dog had Taylor on the floor and was biting her face.
"I punched him until he let her go, then stabbed him with a kitchen knife. Taylor's face was covered in blood. It was like a horror film.
"Every time I close my eyes, I can still see it."
Taylor, of Eltham, South East London, was still critically ill in hospital last night after emergency surgery.
She needed skin grafts after horrific injuries to her jaw, nose and mouth.
Her mum Charlene, 23, said: "The operation was a success. We're just praying she will pull through."
You sure have to know the exact spot. I was told to put a straw or something in the hole for a few minutes...Never tried it as I figured I’d just kill the goat. But I have been scratching a goats ears when they brought up the cud with a burp....sure is stinky..but you get good at seeing the cud come up from the stomach before the burp and quickly walk away.....:O)
I use to say the same thing about my dearly departed husband..
My American bulldog loves tug....and at 7 months and 70 pounds he is already a hoss
but so far he is extremely people friendly...his guard instinct is much less than the Dobies and Rotts and Alsatians I had at similar adolescent doggie age
I really don’t know...but my father and I were standing in his driveway one day when the little kid down the street (12yrs?) came by walking one of those dogs. We chatted for a few minutes and the dog seemed fine. Suddenly, without warning, the dog lunged towards my dad’s throat. My dad was just standing there doing nothing to the dog or the child walking this dog.
Even though I disagree with Chet over this I respect his motivation which I suspect is very personal and he would share if he wanted to.
he is a helluva poster on polls in elections and he and I took a lot of flaming for saying the 2008 polls could not all be inaccurate in claiming that Juan McCain was going to get whipped bad.
I don’t take the issue that he loathes Pits personally...nor how folks jump on the band wagon
it’s just one of those things...not quite like abortion or gun grabbing or amnesty
Anatolians were on my list when I got my Scott Bulldog pup
man...when I first met my wife her cocker hated me...he would pee on my night bag
a lot of breeds get cropped ears including many toys and lappers
docked tails too
I would not crop a bitch Dobie but would a male
We seriously looked at a Cane Corso before we bought Bedford our Scott ABD...the palomino ones are very pretty
I like Dogos too...but my wife nixed a white dog
amen...nearly all big guard breeds have a large Mastiff DNA pool share....the biggest chunk of commonality
most vicious breeds I know of are Chihuahuas and Mini-Pins

BUT, they can’t do much damage and don’t have jaws to do that kind of damage. I would have never had big dogs, with powerful jaws when my kids were small.
I don't believe it is a breed thing- I think any particular dog can be a danger especially to a child in some circumstances. A four year old daughter of a friend of ours was attacked by a Mastiff at a family picnic recently. They raise Mastiffs but the dog that attacked the child belonged to another family member. Thank goodness after surgery the little girl recovered.
We have always owned large dogs including Pits and Pit mixes and plenty of mixed breeds we weren't sure what they were. We safely raised children with them, but I never ever trusted any dog expecially a large one around children. Never. One of our girls was bitten on the cheek at a friend's house by their weenie dog and that was the only bad encounter our kids ever had with a dog.
I read that most dog attacks are on children and many by family pets- I have no idea why a pet would suddenly attack a child but I guess it might have something to do with nature driven predator/prey and possibly the dog not understanding that a child is a small person. Who knows really?
One reason I am against singling out any breed as being dangerous is that I am afraid if people blame "the breed" no matter what breed it is they may be careless with other dogs around children. That would be a big mistake in my opinion.
I agree to an extent. It would be difficult for them to kill a larger child or adult but unfortunately, they are typically lapdogs or picked up and held frequently. Many of their bites are to the face and can be disfiguring. :( My brother has a pretty nasty scar on his jaw line from a miniature daschund.
We used to have a red Dobie. Great dog. So sleek and beautiful.
Uh-huh. I bet that dog had been sleeping on her bed until you came along. Pay backs are...well, you know.
I hope you tried to make friends. Dogs love food but Cocker Spaniels are real gluttons (which is why one sees so many fat Cocker Spaniels). So the quickest way to their hearts is with yummy treats.
If there is a dobie in that pic I was distracted.....yer a lucky man WD......
What functional purpose do cropped ears serve other than not being there to be chewed off by another dog in a fight?
yes, I am against ear cropping - not in the sense that I think it should be banned, but it is something I would not choose to do to a dog of mine.
You are correct. This is a French bullmastiff (Dogue de Bordeaux):
