A father-of-four has been banned from driving for three years after getting behind the wheel of a toy car when drunk.

Paul Hutton, 40, was over the legal alcohol limit when he climbed into the seat of a 4ft by 2ft electric Barbie car, which has a top speed of just 4mph. A police patrol car spotted the 6ft-tall former RAF aeron

Interesting result: I wonder if a 5-year-old was driving . . . would that have been legal?

While I approve of strict enforcement when it comes to drunk driving laws, this is one of the rare exceptions. Barbie cars do not pose a public danger, regardless of how they are driven, and I think the police may have demonstrated a bit of irrational exuberance for their job in this case. [Assuming, of course, that the police stopped him merely for looking goofy and not for any specific action that threatened the lives of innocent people.]

Reminds me of the folks who get arrested for DD while mowing the lawn or something.

I’m 110% against driving a vehicle while drunk, but this stuff is simply ridiculous.

>”Barbie cars do not pose a public danger”

I think youre missing the point here. Its not that the barbie car posed a danger to someone else, its the danger that comes from trying to AVOID this guy. All hunched over and going VERY slow on the side of the road would pose an imminent danger to himself and others trying to keep from hitting this nut.

He’s a grown man. Drunk or not, he should have used a little more common sense. (book smart but not a lick of brains)

The headline of 3 years doesn’t match the 1 year in the story. But whichever, he needs to be sentenced to driving only the Barbie car for 3 years just for his stupidity.

We see the USA going down the tubes, but the UK is ahead of us.
A young UK guy that I helped to get here to the Philippines tells me that there are two cams watching you in public at all times.
And do not forget the guy that found a shotgun on some railroad tracks. He took it to the police station to turn it in and was promptly arrested.

I think it said in the paper he is an aeronautical engineer. Must be British-speak.

I suppose the ban would be justified if he had run over or injured a Barbie or Ken doll but other than that...

Everyday. Everyday I see or read something disturbing coming out of the UK.

We get the UK Cops show here. Sheer dementia. Illegal aliens get pulled over, brought into the station and then given bus fair to get wherever they claim to be going. Cops pull people over and measure their air pressure in their tires so they can deem the car unsafe to drive, ticket them and follow them to the petro station to make sure they get air.

Takes into account a previous drunk driving conviction. The guy is a menace to the roads. Probably drove on the left side, also.

Maybe this is the reason:

>>”Essex Police today said officers initially warned Mr Hutton not to drive the car but they arrested him when he ignored them and tried to make a very slow getaway.
