I love red x’s.
I’ve got one. It’s a pretty good fake also — the second hand actually sweeps instead of the dead give-away ticking.
I don’t know if the rule of thumb still applies, but it used to be that a real Rolex had a smooth sweep to the second hand, but fakes used cheaper quartz watch mechanisms that ticked. It was slightly ironic, because quartz watches are regarded as somewhat more accurate than sweep mechanisms.
Yea, why didn’t they just run over “Binh Cam Tran”
a few times with the dozer.
He would have never sold another watch.....
Used to buy these in Times Sq for 30.00 I couldn’t tell the diff from my real watch.
I bought a Breitling Chronomat replica in Chinatown 10 years ago. Still works fine. I wear it when I go on vacations so if I’m robbed, it’s no big loss.
Ironically.
If you wear a fake watch on vacation - depending where you go - which a casual observer could mistake for something expensive.
You’re probably increasing the odds you will in fact, be robbed.
Just saying. :)
They all sweep now as well as self-wind. The Chinese have raised the bar on bogus watches. I bought a fake Rolex in Dubai. Lasted a good four or five years before the shine wore off the cheap pot metal and the movement itself ultimately crapped out.
I've owned a few counterfeit watches. Some were better than others though none of them work today. I won't buy another one. Seeing fake Gibson guitars from China flood the U.S. market, causing headaches to those of us who buy, sell and collect real ones, I've since reassessed my opinion of counterfeit watches and I'll no longer support any form of counterfeiting, viewing it now as a more serious crime than I used to.
Those were the fakes of 25 years ago. Today's fakes sweep, self-wind and actually have a bit of weight to them. They look pretty good when they're new! I'm sure an expert can spot 'em a mile away but I can't tell the difference.
I have a Brietling too. My buddy has the real one and we cant tell the difference between the two.
