Social Security - Eye Opener
Email | Unknown | Unknown

Posted on 05/14/2010 7:18:01 AM PDT by Washi

I received this in email today:

Your Social Security

Just in case some of you young whippersnappers (& some older ones) didn't know this. It's easy to check out, if you don't believe it. Be sure and show it to your kids. They need a little history lesson on what's what and it doesn't matter whether you are Democrat or Republican. Facts are Facts!!!

Our Social Security

Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. He promised:

1.) That participation in the Program would be Completely voluntary,

No longer Voluntary

2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual Incomes into the Program,

Now 7.65%

on the first $90,000

3..) That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year,

No longer tax deductible

4.) That the money the participants put into the independent 'Trust Fund' rather than into the general operating fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program, and, Under Johnson the money was moved to The General Fund and Spent

5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income.

Under Clinton & Gore up to 85% of your Social Security can be Taxed

Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month -- and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the Federal government to 'put away' -- you may be interested in the following:

Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the independent 'Trust Fund' and put it into the general fund so that Congress could spend it?

A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the democratically controlled House and Senate.

Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?

A: The Democratic Party.

Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities?

A: The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting the 'tie-breaking' deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the US

Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving annuity payments to immigrants?

A: That's right!

Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party. immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, began to receive Social Security payments! The Democratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it!

Then, after violating the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away! And the worst part about it is uninformed citizens believe it!

AND CONGRESS GIVES THEMSELVES 100% RETIREMENT FOR ONLY SERVING ONE TERM!!!

A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have. -Thomas Jefferson

This is my problem with the Fair Tax. What prevents a progressive congress from continuously changing the rules and jacking up the sales tax rate?

People are clueless.
Most Americans still think there is an account sitting out there in their name with their SS contributions sitting in it!!
Hah!

...nothing, and that's the horror of the trap of "this will fix everything" mentality of the evil do-gooder let's just have a 'new' kind of tax folks.

Thanks. I don't like posting bogus information, but I didn't think to look to (or trust) the Social Security Administration for verification of the facts on this one.

Even though the second half of the email is mostly true...the misinformation in the first half is distracting.

Well, if one was to institute it [a flat tax] with an Amendment, it could:
- Repeal the 16th Amendment
- Set the tax rate, say 10%
- Prohibit ANY AND ALL exemptions & deductions
- Penalize tax-evading government officials & employees with mandatory forfeiture of their position [and retirement benefits], and Hard-Labor Prison-Time.

If done in that method, it would take another constitutional Amendment to change the tax-rate OR to institute the exemptions/deductions which, IMO, are put into the tax code as services for the payments of bribes.

That would be we the people. The particular tax scheme, whether its employment taxes, income tax, VAT, or FairTax is not the problem. The problem is that we the people don't stop these legislators in their tracks.

I've come across this before and a friend pointed me to snopes.

I don't really care how we got here so much as what can I do now that we ARE here.

I WANT to think privatizing SS is a good idea, but many voices here in FR discourage that.

Older folks that worked all their life and "contributed" to a "retirement/savings plan" would most surely do what was needed to protect and secure that system, ala investing in whatever system had been decided on.

The alternative seems to be the inevitable ... let SS (as we understand and know it) die, and have a more overt socialist system of care that will include ALL people ... which is worse than taking FICA by law and using it for research into the mating habits of the Lower Slobovian SHMOO ... (Which we all know is the epitome of Socialism)

These are old numbers, it's 7.65% of the first $106,800 in 2010

I agree, of course.

Recent history doesn’t give us much hope that “the people” in general are going to stop the elitist federal government from doing anything they want to do.

“The people” are not likely to stop amnesty for illegal aliens, and they are not likely to stop the socialist-poor illegals, once given amnesty, from being the impetus for millions more to come across the Rio Grande, and they are not likely to prevent the socialist poor from becoming the voting majority in the USA.

“The people” are quickly becoming the socialist, self-serving, no-allegiance-to-America aliens.

And those evil scientist worked their magicv and VOILA! In 1936 Women lived to be 61 and men 57 so the average person wouldn't collect FICA Funds. Today the life expectency is 91 for Women and 87 for men! S0......

Fortunately Obamascare will take care of this problem. Kill off the old folks and save the Sockettoem Funds will be transferred to illegals and others in need!

Nothing to stop it and it will happen. Fair Tax people are in a fox if they do not understand that Government cannot be trusted and anything that gets in their way of greed and power will change. And that is just one example why the Fair Tax is crazy. There is no perfect taxing system and will never be.

As I pointed out in post 12, the tax scheme is not the problem.

Actually, I believe that the FairTax has a better chance of stopping runaway spending than other tax schemes, mainly because the taxpayers would be more aware of what they are paying to the government. But, pros and cons of the FairTax are sort of off topic here. Perhaps we can discuss it further on one of the FairTax threads.

The irony of this is that the mainstream demoRAT voter is too stupid to realize all of this is a bad thing. They’re so firmly entrenched in the RAT mentality they can’t think an original thought.
