PETAs Sea Kittens: Coming to a Dictionary Soon? 5/13/10
Instead of simply embracing silly PR stunts, PETA, the nations most outrageous animal rights group, is now attempting to get its preferred term for fish, sea kitten, used as a synonym in the dictionary.
PETA has petitioned Merriam-Webster, one of the largest producers of dictionaries in the nation to include sea kitten as a synonym for fish in upcoming editions. PETA claims that the term is becoming increasingly popular since it started a marketing campaign in 2008 using the phrase. It further claims that "sea kittens" are just as intelligent as dogs and cats.
PETA may end up disappointed, however. According to statements from editors at Merriam-Webster, they have indicated it is highly unlikely that the term will be appearing anytime soon in the dictionary. They state that words are only included after they become widely used or defines something that did not previously have a name.
No one - except maybe some “artist” the ACLU would rush to defend - likes to brutalize animals.
But PETA is a sick, sick group.
Why don't you just pet the nice kitty?
Well, if fish are like kittens, then kittens must be like fish: filleted fish, fried fish, fish salad, fish sushi, ...
Where can you buy kittens?
Probably not one of the ‘brightest bulb’ moments for PETA.
I foresee young kids dunking, thus drowning, real kittens in tubs of water, assuming they, like ‘sea kittens’, will be able to swim.
This will turn out to be one of those ‘unintended consequences’ ideas that failed.
I had sea kitten for dinner last night.A few drops of lemon...tasty!
And guess what you've been eating at your local Chinese restaurant!
Seems the term “sea-kittens” was invented by “land-pussies”...
Inquiring minds wonder if there is a connection.
I love me some KITTEN CHOW!
They're the cat's meow!
Today is the sea kitten opener in Minnesota and you’d think it was Ramadan in Mecca. PETA is going to have a hard time convincing these yoopers not to cast a line.
And conservatives should remind Merriam-Webster that this kind of PC perversion in not acceptable.
PETA already has an entry in the dictionary. Just look under “idiots.”
I was thinking about buying some sea kitten poles this weekend.
well? I just had a sea kitten sandwich for lunch! all I can say is “YUM!” tartar sauce...
Gon’ fishin’.
Clearly sea kittens are at least as smart as PETA members.
