Skills Everyone Should Have

Posted on 05/20/2010 1:53:25 PM PDT by HungarianGypsy

No, I am not going to tell you. But, I will ask. When it gets hotter than an oven in Arizona, it's time to think of ways to keep the mind occupied, since the body is likely to fry up like a prune if it steps outside.

While I have seen lists all over of what skills everyone should have. Things from basic survivalism, shooting a gun (maybe that wasn't from a list and I just want to do that one), being able to discuss current events, changing s tire, etc. Which skills should every man and/or woman know?

"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects." Robert Heinlein

And get banned? No Thanks! ;-)

But seriously... how to grow stuff, fix stuff, kill and prepare food, basic first aid...

It’s also helpful to know how to choose the one true God and worship Him. That’s a very useful skill, over the long haul.

Lift your own weight.

Run three miles without stopping.

Hold your breath for two minutes.

Diagram a sentence.

Life’s dangerous - get fit!

Start a fire without matches, wire an electrical circuit for standard 120 voltage, sand and finish lumber, change engine oil.

Well lets see:
plan an invasion(nope),
butcher a hog (nope),
conn a ship (nope),
build a wall (nope),

But I’m 28, so I guess I’ve got time to learn the rest.

Every American citizen should know how to safely handle a firearm, read and write English, drive a standard shift, and name all seven dwarfs.
