Time to dust off those Foxfire books.
About the same time I invented field expedient arc welding.
“Start a fire without matches, wire an electrical circuit for standard 120 voltage”
If you thought that was fun, you should try it with 220v, or maybe 440v. :)
The idea is to get hurt just enough to give your buddies a good laugh, not so they give you mouth to mouth...
Currently, I am starting a copy writing business. To build my portfolio, I did a few items pro bono. Now, I barter. When my website up, I start charging. My Monday morning appointment is rewriting a doula’s site. She is paying me by teaching me how to sew and knit.
Go here to download a compatibility pack for users of older versions of MS Office. Very handy.
I did it once with 220v - fried the screwdriver, and wow, did my arm hurt!

I can do all of those things, but not at the same time... is that OK?
I’ll start with some simple, you might think obvious ones. I’m always surprised by the number of people who don’t know how to do them, especially people under 30.
Drive a stick shift
Change a flat tire, check and add car fluids
Load and fire a hand gun
Sew on a button and mend a hem
Read a map
Knives
Scissors
Axes
Saws
Fishhooks
How to work with leather. Making pouches, clothing, plaiting bullwhips, etc...
Which is the most universal document format? I also use Open Office and love it. Sometime, I must go through the other programs other than the Writer program. Just taught my husband how to use it last night.
“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.”

It's funny how obvious the flat tire thing is for older types. A few months ago I asked my 20 something year old future son-in-law if he could change the tire on our van while I was at work. I got several calls from my daughter and wife saying that he couldn't get the old tire off. He's not a weak guy so I couldn't figure out why. When I got home I saw the problem immediatly. He was trying to loosen the lug nuts with the the tire all the way up in the air. Of course the wheel just kept spinning and spinning everytime he tried to loosen them. He had spent like 3 hours trying to do it. A little patient explanation about loosening BEFORE you jacked it up did wonders.
One of the first things I did with both my girls when we got their first cars was park them on a flat surface and go through how to change a tire on that particular car. Nothing like getting to do it once to build the confidence that you can do it again should the need arise. We also went through checking and adding all the fluids, as well as checking and adding air to tires.
Nah, it is easy. I use to sew all the time. I bought a new sewing machine which I had not got out of the box for over 2 years. My granddaughter told me she wanted to learn how so I gave it to her. She started by making pillows. She sent me a picture of her daughter wearing a dress she had made. Amazing. So, if she can learn how in such a short time, then you can.
